Wärtsilä Marine Power, R&D and Engineering is looking for a (Senior) Chief Design Engineer to develop new design solutions for 4-stroke engines together with other R&D Engineers.

Chief Design Engineer performs assigned demanding design tasks and engineering work to ensure that products and services meet the required quality standards and actual customer needs.

In this position you will be participating in new engine development, customer delivery projects as product care activities. This position provides a good opportunity to learn and grow in design and Engineering within diesel, gas and multi-fuel 4-stroke engines.

Location for this position is primarily Vaasa, Finland.

Responsibilities:

  • Design engine components and systems (3D models, drawings, feasibility studies) and produce technical specifications.
  • Respecting guidelines
  • Implementing Design for Manufacturing, Assembly & Service concepts
  • Ensuring that design is cost efficient and assembly/maintenance optimized
  • Ensuring benchmarking of alternative design solutions
  • Participate in development of new design solutions together with other R&D Engineers
  • Participate in product care activities
  • Give technical support to other departments
  • Perform work break-down and effort estimation for all significant design tasks
  • Manage design schedule adherence by regular progress review meetings with designers
  • Perform root cause analysis of design errors and provide lessons learned input to our common instructions

Requirements:

  • B.Sc or M.Sc in Engineering
  • Experience with diesel and/or gas engines
  • 5-10 years of experience in design / Engineering environment
  • Experience of 3D design tool (Siemens NX)
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of team
  • Good command of English, both oral and written
