We are inviting applications for PostDoc position in the Unit of Computing Sciences at the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences. The unit of Computing Sciences covers all essential areas of Information Technology. We develop methods, theories, and technologies for digitalized data and information centric society. Common to all our fields are strong mathematical, algorithmic, and computational thinking and understanding of social networks and human-computer interaction.

Our 400 staff members work on three campuses in Tampere and Pori. We have about 200 research projects mainly led by the professors totaling over 20Meur annual external funding. The primary objective of the Network and Information Security Group (NISEC) at the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences is to bring together expertise in education, research, and practice in the field of information security and privacy. Active since 1996, NISEC has notable achievements nationally, such as pioneering the deployment of native IPv6 in Finnish campus networks, introducing and rolling out Eduroam-based wireless roaming in Finland, forming the TREX regional Internet exchange point, establishing internationally federated research testbeds with PlanetLAB and GENI, as well as creating two successful spinoff companies. The core competencies of NISEC currently traverse four areas: Network Security; IoT Security; Hardware-Assisted Security; Privacy and Usable Security. Read more about NISEC research.

Job description

To strengthen our team, we are looking for talented and highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to contribute to research projects related to applied cryptography, hardware security, provable security and privacy. The selected candidate will primarily be working on the following topics (but not limited to):

• Differential Privacy;
• Functional Encryption;
• Privacy-Preserving Analytics;
• Privacy-Preserving Machine Learning;
• Efficient operations on encrypted data;
• Processing of encrypted data in outsourced and untrusted environments;

The position is principally research-focused. Activities include:

• Conducting both theoretical and applied research;
• Design of secure and/or privacy-preserving protocols;
• Security analysis of cryptography implementations;
• TEE design and security analysis;
• Software development and validation;
• Reading and writing scientific articles;
• Presentation of the research results at seminars and conferences in Finland and abroad;
• Acquiring (or assisting in acquiring) further funding.

Programming skills are essential.

Requirements

You are an enthusiastic, highly motivated researcher holding a PhD in a field closely related to Computer Science and Engineering. You have a proven track record of peer-reviewed publications in top-tier security venues. You also have impeccable Scientific Writing in English skills.

We offer

Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is filled for a fixed-term period until the end of September 2024. The position can be filled from September 1^st  2022 or based on agreement. A trial period of six (6) months may apply. 

The salary will be based on both the position requirements and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the Salary system of Finnish universities. The position of a Postdoctoral research Fellow is placed on the job demand levels 5-6 (teaching and research staff). A typical starting salary for a Post Doctoral Research Fellow is approximately 3,600-4,000 EUR/month (level 5) or 4,200-4,650 €/month (level 6).

• TEE suunnittelu ja turva-analyysi;

• Tieteellisten artikkeleiden lukeminen ja kirjoittaminen;
• Tutkimustulosten esittäminen seminaareissa ja konferenseissa Suomessa sekä ulkomailla;
• Jatkorahoituksen hakeminen tai siinä auttaminen;
