As our General Counsel, you will be accountable for a wide range of legal, corporate, strategic, operational, and compliance matters. This position is a critical and highly visible role, making substantial contributions to the company globally. 

What you’ll be doing

• Managing Varjo’s legal and compliance matters. 
• Working closely with the CEO and CFO, e.g. to manage board and governance matters.
• Preparing Board meeting materials and facilitating Board meetings.
• Overseeing all the company’s legal functions, e.g. IP and contracting, and serve as a company point of contact for legal matters, ensuring efficient use of internal and external resources to support required legal deliverables.
• Supporting in managing the organization's intellectual property.
• Providing legal support for M&A activities.
• Collaborating with our leadership team to identify key operating, technology, and environmental risks and work on developing appropriate mitigation strategies.
• Working cross-functionally and providing recommendations and comprehensive legal and compliance support where required.
• Examining and preparing drafts of commercial contracts.
• Establishing and maintaining strong business relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the effective management of contract enquiries, disputes, variations, risks and undertaking negotiations as required.
• Providing legal advice and support to the company’s Sales, Finance, Leadership, and HR teams as well as others when required.

Our expectations

• A Master of Laws degree with strong credentials.
• 10+ years of hands-on legal experience in a range of legal functions, preferably in high technology business focusing particularly in contracting and intellectual property
• Expertise functioning at the enterprise level and collaborating with a leadership team
• Experience addressing complex legal, business, compliance and ethical issues and the ability to develop and articulate strategies
• Ability to prioritize and work independently under tight deadlines
• Ability to work as a team member, and to easily adapt to the rapidly changing requirements of a dynamic, fast-growing company
• Collaborative leadership skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong interpersonal relationships, gaining trust from all levels both within the company and externally
• Excellent negotiation, presentation and communication skills.
