INVEST – Inequalities, Interventions and a New Welfare State – is a joint research centre and Finnish Research Flagship that operates under the Faculties of Medicine and Social Sciences at the University of Turku (UTU) and at the Welfare State Research and Reform unit at the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). INVEST aims at providing a new model for the welfare states that is more equal, better targeted to problem groups, more anticipatory as well as economically and socially sustainable. Based on cutting-edge research on the conditions and mechanisms involved at different periods of development, INVEST will evaluate and develop various universal and targeted interventions to improve the efficiency of the current welfare state institutions at critical points of the early life course.

Top researchers within the fields of sociology, psychology, child psychiatry and social policy lead the research centre.


We are now looking for a

Project Manager

to join our successful team for a fixed-term position. Work will start on according to agreement and end on 30th of September 2025.

The tasks are related to a Horizon Europe project “”Mapping inequalities through the life course” (MapIneq) led by Professor Jani Erola. The project studies the trends and drivers of intergenerational, educational, labour market and health inequalities over the life course during the last decades. The partners in the MapIneq consortium are University of Turku, Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin, Tallinn University, University of Groningen, Universidad Nacional de Education Distancia, Stockholms Universitet and University of Oxford. 

As the Project Manager your main task is to take care of the implementation of the project according to the project plan and support the principal investigator and project partners in international collaboration and project administration according to the terms of the research funder. You will take responsibility for implementing the project management and communications working package led by INVEST/UTU and impact working package led by Max-Planck-Gesellschaft together with INVEST/UTU. In addition, the tasks include writing project reports based on the research conducted, coordination and collaboration with the consortium partners, the research funder and the University services.

We expect the Project Manager to have: 

  • a higher university degree in a suitable field
  • strong experience in project management and administration
  • strong experience in conducting academic research
  • ability to produce written summary reports
  • ability to collaborate with international research partners
  • proficiency in English and good skills in interaction 

We appreciate:

  • PhD degree in social sciences or other suitable field
  • experience within the MapIneq research fields
  • ability to advance societal interaction of research and experience in research dissemination and communication
  • experience in administration of EU-funded projects

The salary for the post is determined in accordance with the university salary system. The job demand level is 9–10. The salary for the Project Manager is about 3348,55 - 4179,08 euros per month in the beginning of employment depending on the previous experience and expertise of the selected person. The job demand level 10 will require strong experience in conducting academic research and an ability to produce summary reports independently.

Trial period of six (6) months will apply.
