University of Turku, Faculty of Medicine is seeking Professor of Nursing science.

The position is located in the Department of Nursing science. The employment contract of professor will be permanent.

The Faculty of Medicine is a high level, international and innovative research and education unit in biomedicine, clinical medicine, dentistry and health and nursing sciences, as well as a major social contributor to health promotion, disease genesis, in the research of diagnostics and treatment and in the development of the health service and education system. The faculty provides research-based multidisciplinary undergraduate education in educational programs that educate diverse and critically minded specialists. The research is multidisciplinary and results in new information aimed at promoting the health of the population and better patient care.

The Department of Nursing Science is nationally and internationally known and recognized for its education and research. The research of the department is carried out in the high-level, international Empowering Population, Patients, Professionals in Health and Care, EPPP- research program, which is also one of the thematic research programs of the Faculty of Medicine and one of the strategic areas of the University. The teaching of the department is carried out in an international environment, where top specialists are educated to health and social service positions, as leaders, teachers, researchers, and for the development of the discipline of nursing science.


Vacant Position
The duties of the professor are to carry out and supervise scholarly work, to provide education based on it and to keep abreast of academic developments, as well as to participate in societal interaction and international cooperation in his or her field.

The professor is expected to carry out and supervise scientific research in the field of Nursing science. As far as training is concerned, it is the duty of the Professor to teach undergraduate students, postgraduate students and the students of continuing education.  When needed, the professor also participates in teaching in other training programmes in the Faculty of Medicine In addition, the professor is to perform the duties arising from his/her membership in the University’s executive and administrative bodies and other duties appertaining to the post or with which she/he has been commissioned.

 It is possible to connect part-time affiliation in Turku University Hospital to the post of professor.

Formal qualifications
The requirements for a person to be appointed as a professor are a doctoral degree, high-level academic competence, experience in managing academic research, experience of international cooperation in the research field he or she represents, as well as the ability to provide high-level research-based education and to supervise final theses.

When evaluating the merits of the applicant, the following are taken into consideration: scholarly publications and other research results with academic value; teaching experience and pedagogical training; the ability to produce teaching materials; other accomplishments in teaching and a trial lecture, as well as participation in doctoral education. In addition, the applicant’s active participation in the academic community, success in obtaining complementary funding for research as well as scholarly work abroad and international duties.

Salary and Applications
The salary is determined in accordance with the university’s salary system for teaching and research personnel. For professors, the salary is situated between levels 8–10 on the job demands’ chart, where the task specific salary component lies between 4947,97 - 6307,68 euros per month.  In addition, a personal work performance component (6-50 % of the task specific salary) will be paid.

The position is subject to a six-month(6) trial period.
