The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Turku invites applications for the position of University Teacher in German at the Department of German in the School of Languages and Translation Studies. The position will be filled on a fixed-term part-time employment for 4 months.

The employment period of the appointed university teacher is 1.1.2023–30.4.2023.

The Department of German is part of the School of Languages and Translation Studies. The School is an active, diverse and international centre for language study education and research. The duties in the open position include teaching both in bachelor’s and master’s level studies.

Qualifications and requirements

The eligibility criteria for prospective applicants are defined in the University of Turku’s rules of procedure.

Successful performance in the post of University Teacher requires excellent proficiency in German, fluency in Finnish, an applicable higher university degree and experience in university level teaching of German. When assessing the merits of the applicants for the post, an extensive competence in the field in question and ability to provide versatile teaching shall be taken into account. The University Teacher is expected to be able to teach Finnish-German translation.

In addition, the University Teacher is expected to participate in developing the studies, student admissions, supervision of theses, coordinating the studies with the personnel of the School, as well as other tasks in the department.

 

Salary and trial period

The salary for the position is determined on the basis of job demand assessment levels 4–6 of the university salary system for teaching and research personnel, where the task-specific salary component is between € 2628–3549 per month. A component that is based on personal performance is also paid in addition to the task-specific salary. Depending on previous competence and experience the salary of a part-time (75 %) university teacher will be 2090 - 3110 €/month.

The position includes a 2-month trial period.
