We are now seeking an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor in the field of Information Security. The position is located in the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences at Tampere University, more specifically in the unit of Computing Sciences. 

We currently employ 46 professors and 50 full-time teachers. Our 450 staff members work on three campuses: at Tampere city center and Hervanta as well as at university consortium of Pori. The unit of Computing Sciences covers all essential areas of Information Technology. We develop methods, theories, and technologies for digitalized data and information centric society. Common to all our fields are strong mathematical, algorithmic, and computational thinking and understanding of social networks and human-computer interaction. Software engineering, signal processing, computer engineering and information security are solution-oriented disciplines, and data science seeks to build models and extract meaningful information from large amounts of complex data. Machine learning, artificial intelligence and data-driveness cut across all our disciplines.    

We have about 150 research projects mainly led by the professors totaling over 20Meur annual external funding. We create 600 publications at top journals and conferences. Job description 

The Network and Information Security group in the unit of Computing Sciences is an active and vibrant research group consisting of 2 professors, 3 lecturers, 4 senior researchers, and around 20 researchers and research assistants made up of postgraduate and graduate students. The core research competencies of the group are hardware-assisted security, privacy, applied cryptography, IoT security, network security, and security usability. 

We invite applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas: 

Hardware Security: Candidates in this area are expected to have a proven track record of excellence in security-focused electrical engineering, signal processing, System-on-Chip design, computer architecture (e.g., RISC-V), hardware-software codesign, and/or digital design research and development. Topics of interest include hardware aspects of system security, side-channel analysis, and/or trusted execution environments. 

Software Security: Candidates in this area are expected to have a proven track record of excellence in security, privacy, anonymity, and/or crypto-focused software engineering, software assurance, static and dynamic analysis, formal verification, and/or trusted computing research and development. Topics of interest include software architectures, software testing, software aspects of side-channel analysis, trusted application development, and/or application areas such as privacy, anonymity, and/or cryptography. 

Applied Cryptography: Candidates in this area are expected to have a proven track record of excellence in both practical and theoretical aspects of cryptography research and development. Topics of interest include provable security, differential privacy, functional encryption, privacy-preserving analytics, and/or protocols. 

Requirements  

Assistant Professor  

We require:  

• applicable doctoral degree, 
• ability to undertake independent scholarly activity and potential to pursue scholarly activity at a high international level of excellence, and    
• teaching skills required to successfully perform the duties and functions of the position.

Associate Professor  

We require:  

• applicable doctoral degree,  
• track record of independent scholarly activity,  
• teaching skills required to successfully perform the duties and functions of the position,   
• ability to lead a research group and acquire external funding, and  
• track record of international scholarly activity.

Professor  

We require:  

• applicable doctoral degree , 
• high-level scholarly expertise,  
• experience of leading scientific research,  
• ability to provide high-quality research-based education and instruction,   
• track record of winning external research funding, and    
• track record of international scholarly or artistic activity.

Salaries are based on the job demands and employees’ personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. The starting salary range will be from €4,000 to €4,600/month for an assistant professor, from €4,600 to €5,300/month for an associate professor, and from €5,500 to €6,300/month for a professor. A higher salary may be agreed upon based on the successful candidate’s experience and/or performance. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.

Etsimme Tietoturvan tenure track -tutkijaa (Assistant Professor), tenure track-professoria (Associate Professor) tai professoria (Professor). Tehtävä sijoittuu Informaatioteknologian ja viestinnän tiedekunnan  Tietotekniikan yksikköön.  

Tehtävänkuvaus  

Tietotekniikan yksikön verkko- ja tietoturvallisuuden aktiivisessa ja elinvoimaisessa tutkimusryhmässä työskentelee tällä hetkellä kaksi professoria, kolme lehtoria, neljä vanhempaa tutkijaa sekä noin 20 tutkijaa joko tutkijatohtoreina tai väitöskirjatutkijoina. Ryhmän keskeisiä osaamisalueita ovat laitteistopohjainen turvallisuus, yksityisyys, salausmenetelmien sovellukset, tietoverkkojen (ml. esineiden Internet) turvallisuus sekä tietoturvan käytettävyys. 

Haemme ryhmän vahvistukseksi asiantuntijaa joltain seuraavilta tietoturvan osa-alueilta: 

Laitteistojen tietoturva. Tämän alueen hakijoilta odotetaan vahvoja näyttöjä tietoturvaan liittyvästä tutkimus- ja kehitystyöstä signaalinkäsittelyssä, piirisuunnittelussa, tai laitteisto/ohjelmistorajapintaan liittyvissä toteutuksissa; esim. liittyen sivukanavahyökkäyksiin ja suoritusympäristöjen luotettavuuteen. 

Ohjelmistojen tietoturva. Tämän alueen hakijoilta edellytetään vahvoja näyttöjä ohjelmistojen tietoturvaan, yksityisyyteen, anonymiteettiin, sekä luotettavuuden varmentamiseen liittyvissä kysymyksissä, mukaan lukien näiden analyysimenetelmät ja -työkalut. Kiinnostuksemme kohteena ovat mm. ohjelmistoarkkitehtuurit, ohjelmistojen testaus sekä sovelluskehitys. 

Sovellettu kryptografia. Tämän alueen hakijoilla tulee olla vakuuttavia näyttöjä salausmenetelmien toteutuksiin ja teoriaan liittyvästä tutkimus- ja kehitystyöstä. Esimerkkejä kiinnostuksen kohteista ovat turvallisuuden (formaali) todistaminen, differentiaalinen yksityisyys, funktionaaliset salausmenetelmät ja tietoturvaprotokollat.

Professori

• soveltuvaa tohtorin tutkintoa,   
• korkeaa kansainvälisen tason tieteellistä pätevyyttä,  
• kokemusta tieteellisen tutkimuksen johtamisesta,   
• kykyä antaa korkeatasoista tutkimukseen perustuvaa opetusta ja ohjausta,   
• näyttöjä täydentävän tutkimusrahoituksen hankkimisesta sekä 
• näyttöjä kansainvälisestä tieteellisestä toiminnasta.
