The Engineering and technology category covers multiple departments, such and Research and Development, throughout our Marine and Energy businesses. This means the tasks in this category will vary depending on the team you are selected for and may be related to things like documentation, technical drawings, maintenance, research, risk management, engine design (electrical and mechanical), engine testing, fuel labs, risk management, quality management, technical support, 3D printing, project support, Project Management, Process Development and much more.

Specifically Marine Field Service and Energy`s Commissioning and Construction Serviceses include opportunities for construction, electrical, mechanical and automation engineering students with willingness to spend the summer travelling to our customer sites supporting different projects and instillations.

Responsibilities:

All work in the Engineering and Technology D is guided by the Wärtsilä Way as well as our task related targets, safety guidelines and quality standards. Continuous development and innovation are a part of daily tasks, so you will also get the chance to help us develop our operations within your responsibility area.

The available summer trainee positions can be for instance in the following areas:

  • Software development
  • Engine Automation & Controls
  • Technical Documentation & Product Information
  • Project Engineering for Automation, Civil, Electrical & Mechanical Engineering
  • Process Engineering
  • Quality, Health, Safety & Environment
  • Sustainable Fuels & Decarbonization 
  • Project Management or Project Engineering
  • Structural Analysis
  • Rapid Innovation & Service Design
  • Construction & Commissioning Services

As an ideal candidate you have

  • On-going studies in a relevant field (B.Sc. Or M.Sc. in Environmental, Mechanical, Process, Civil, Chemical or Electrical Engineering, Automation, Information Technology, Energy Technology, Software Development, Construction or similar)
  • Written and spoken fluency in English & good communication and documentation skills
  • Active, result oriented attitude towards work and the ability to see the big picture
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Systematic, analytical and detail focused way of working
  • An ability to work independently and effectively on multiple tasks

Please note that mentioned knowledge and skills are examples and applicable to different positions. You are not expected to cover all of these but do remember to mention the ones that apply to you.

  • Additional language skills
  • Knowledge or experience in project management
  • Hands-on experience of engines (machining, installation, assembly or through personal interest)
  • Being tech savvy in one or more of the mentioned: TeamCenter, NX, AutoCAD, C, C++, Java, Angular, Python, Javascript, GitHub, React, Docker, Cloud technologies, SAP, RPA (robotics process development) or any similar
  • Experience in DevOps tools and systems
  • Experience in QEHS (Quality, Environment, Health, Safety) risk management within manufacturing or service type of industry
  • Experience in reporting or data analytics

To ensure a fair and equal compensation for all selected trainees, the salary for each trainee (monthly salaries) is set based on the level of studies and number of acquired study credits. The salary range is 1 825€ - 2 535€/month depending on the above given factors.
