Technology Expert, Tightening & Tensioning tools

In the frame of Sustainable Technology HUB vision and growth, Wärtsilä is looking for a person to strengthen the Tools & Equipment team. The technology expert, tightening and tension tools role will be crucial to ideate and to coordinate development & design of engine product tightening solutions. Our team is a part of Manufacturing Excellence's DFM & Engineering Development unit (MEX DFM & ED) which as an organization is responsible for coordinating and securing manufacturability of new or upgraded products.

We as a Tools & Equipment team are responsible for securing functioning tool solutions as well as pushing technology and embedding new innovative design thinking in our design solutions (e.g. by means of embedding AM technology in our daily operation). We find or develop solutions, prepare requirements for acquired equipment and maintain existing design/data. We also support different stakeholders in tool related studies, acquisitions, projects or questions.

The preferred location for the position is in Vaasa, Finland.

What will you be doing?
In this position, your work will focus to secure proper design of critical tools by means of calculation, safety analysis and compliance of CE rules. With main focus to hydraulic tightening method & tools and production automation integration. You will be asked to support Tools design cross products but will not be working on this alone and you, even though the work requires a high level of independency; in your daily work you will have the support from Tools & Equipment design team and interactions with MEX Design for Manufacturing specialists as well as MEX Additive Manufacturing team.

As Technology Expert, calculation & heavy lifting, your work will focus on these responsibilities:
·    Responsible to define, schedule and co-ordinate activities for own Technology Area
·    Coordinate tool development projects: secure that the developed solutions are available on time, are functional, safe and fulfil legal requirements
·    Innovate & develop tools and validate new ideas & concepts with calculations
·    Ensure the safety and legality of designs
·    Report the activities & progress and keep align with RDE gate check list together with DFM experts
·    Support stakeholders in tool related studies or expertise questions
·    Participate in product development projects and give support for heavy tools design in cooperation with RDE and partner companies
·    Support STH MEX AM team with technical analysis and design for Additive Manufacturing.

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:
·    BSc or MSc studies in Engineering
·    At least 3-year experience from similar duties
·    Experience in strength calculation, welding or any other traditional engineering area or design / development projects is considered a benefit.
·    Knowledge of Machinery Directive and applied standards
·    Knowledge of other relevant design standards
·    Knowledge of NX / TeamCenter or other 3D cad advanced tools
·    Systematic and organized way of working, good problem-solving skills
·    Strong Team working skills and capability to create networks
·    Knowledge & basic understanding of additive manufacturing
·    Innovative mindset with focus on delivery results
·    Fluency in Finnish and English
