We are looking for a research-driven chemical analytical or pharmaceutical scientist with interest in connecting research data with drug substance and product properties. This is a one-year fixed-term position until the end of October 2025, located in Turku. 

Description of position

The position focuses on chemical analytics and formulation development in the research projects. You will design and conduct chemical analytics, dissolution, and flux studies for APIs and various non-clinical dosage forms. You will assess the methods’ feasibility and confirm their suitability for the intended use. Additionally, you will test, develop, and prepare formulations for the non-clinical studies. You will also review results, summarize findings, draw conclusions from the studies, and document your work.

You will work closely with the early formulation scientists as well as the formulation and chemical analytical research associates. You will gain insights into forward-looking biopharmaceutical strategies that enable the development of high-quality drug substances and drug products throughout the research phase. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to learn how to use and develop biopredictive in vitro tools to support the biopharmaceutical strategy.

To succeed in this position, you must be committed to working in the laboratory. The role involves actively taking ownership of planning and coordinating daily laboratory activities, which requires strong interpersonal skills. The dynamic nature of the research demands flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing situations. You will follow the scientific development in this field of science, develop the activities and practices within pharmaceutical research and development, and share your knowledge and experience with your colleagues.

Description of unit

Biopharmaceutics and Chemical Analytics unit consists of analytical and formulation scientists. We develop chemical analytical and dissolution methods to support drug product development from early research to clinical trials. We work on projects where we develop non-clinical formulations, biopharmaceutical tools, and gain an understanding of the in-vivo absorption of drug substances. Biopharmaceutics and Chemical Analytics unit is a part of the Pharmaceutical Sciences in Orion R&D.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have the following:

  • M.Sc. degree in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field
  • Experience of analytical method development in research or pharmaceutical industry
  • Knowledge of spectrophotometric and (U)HPLC techniques and method development
  • Knowledge of dissolution method development and experience of performing dissolution and flux tests
  • Knowledge of non-clinical formulation development and research
  • Ability and commitment to work in laboratory
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing situations
  • Excellent interaction skills
  • Fluent communication skills in English are essential
