VTT MIKES is specialised in measurement science and technology. As the National Metrology Institute of Finland, VTT MIKES is responsible for the implementation and development of the national measurement standards system and realisation of the SI units in Finland. We carry out top-level research within the field of measurement science and develop measurement techniques for the industry and society.

We have two positions open in research and development activities in active hyperspectral sensing. Depending on your personal background and interest, your responsibilities may include:
- Design and construction of measuring devices, including mechanics, optics and electronics
- Testing, optimizing and validating instrument performance
- Conducting laboratory and in-field measurements
- Reporting results in scientific journals
- Generating new research ideas and acquiring research funding
- Managing research projects
- Innovation activities, e.g. invention disclosures and patents
- Customer relationships

- Master’s or Doctor’s degree in physics or engineering
- General knowledge in optics
- Fluent written and oral communication in English

The following skills are considered an asset:
- Design of measurement instruments
- Supercontinuum lasers
- Spectroscopy
- Electronics, FPGA in particular
- Programming, e.g. Matlab, LabView, embedded systems
- Data analysis, e.g. spectral line fitting, machine learning
- Numerical simulation
- Metrology

Enthusiastic about the possibility to develop optical sensing technologies in national and international projects for a variety of applications, such as plastic sorting, ore detection in mines and sensors for autonomous cars. We are looking for a passionate researcher who is a fast learner and goes beyond the obvious. You like problems solving and make initiatives rather wait for instructions. You have the skills to work in cooperation with researchers in your team and also independently when required.
