Doctoral Student Position In Smart Lighting

A fully funded PhD student position is available at the lighting research group, Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation, School of Electrical Engineering, Aalto University. It is a full-time position available from December 1, 2019 but the start time can be negotiated. As a PhD student at Aalto University, the successful candidate will have access to an outstanding PhD program, with competitive salary and benefits.

Subject

The doctoral student will work on the project “Finest Twins”. Finest twins is EU Horizon 2020 funded project focusing on five key domains for clean and sustainable Smart City development: mobility, energy and the built environment combined with governance, urban analytics and data management. The PhD candidate will work on the development of sustainable and adaptable smart lighting on living environments.

Qualification

The applicant should have MSc degree or equivalent in a relevant field ( eg. electrical engineering, electronics engineering,  computer science), or be a M.Sc. student in a final phase of their studies. The candidate should have strong analytical and writing skills in English, and experience or genuine interest in illumination engineering.  The candidate should have or willing to acquire knowledge on lighting design, 3D modelling and statistical data analysis, eager to execute experimental (field) work including human behaviour and perception.

The successful candidate should be highly motivated, creative and able to work as part of a multidisciplinary research team and willing to cooperate with research groups in Aalto and Tallinn.
