The Network and Information Security Group (NISEC) in the Computing Sciences Unit at Tampere University, Tampere, Finland, is an active and vibrant research group consisting of 2 professors, 4 senior researchers, and around 20 researchers and research assistants made up of postgraduate and graduate students. The core research competencies of the group are hardware-assisted security, privacy, applied cryptography, IoT security, network security, and security usability.
We are seeking highly motivated postdoctoral research fellows to staff several active European Research Council (ERC) and Horizon 2020 (H2020) research projects.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Across our several active research projects, duties include at least one of the following:
Cryptography engineering and development, in software and/or hardware
Discovery and implementation of side-channel attacks and mitigations, in software and/or hardwareSecure software development and testing
Searchable Encryption and data structures enabling efficient search operations on ciphertexts
Study and implementation of (revocable) attribute-based encryption schemes
Design and implementation of secure and/or privacy-preserving protocols for the cloud and/or IoT
We actively collaborate with other research groups both internationally and nationally, hence the work involves travel and intercultural cooperation.
REQUIREMENTS
Potential candidates hold a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline (computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, signal processing). They have good communication and teamwork abilities, as well as the ability to conduct scientific research at a high level. In addition to English language proficiency, skills must include three or more of the following:
Scientific writing and data visualization (LaTeX, gnuplot, Inkscape, etc.)
Software development (C, ASM, Python, scripting, etc.)
Hardware development (Verilog, VHDL, FPGA, etc.)
Version control systems (git, svn, etc.)
Mathematics, statistics, data analysis (Matlab, R, sage, etc.)
WE OFFER
Positions are for a fixed-term period, ranging from 1-4 years. Start dates are flexible, but anticipated between January 1, 2020 and March 1, 2020. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.
The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. A typical starting salary for a postdoc is between 3500-4000 €, depending on previous experience.
