Job Description

The MEYER Group is an international consortium with three shipyards in Papenburg, Rostock and Turku, as well as other subsidiaries and companies of MEYER Group. Around 7,000 people work directly for us. We work with our highly qualified network to build cruise ships, river cruise ships and ferries for customers around the world.

Our customers need sustainable ships & products and our stakeholders require ESG governance. This is an opportunity for us and the reason for why we are lifting the topic to another level – including the needed organizational structures. At the helm of this organizational structure there will be an ESG board and a full-time ESG lead in order to guide, align and steer various working groups on topics like green shipyard, CSRD reporting or selected innovation projects.

For the next possible date, we are looking for a

Global Environmental Social Corporate Governance (ESG) Lead (m/f/d)

The main areas of responsibility are:

  • Design of the overall ESG aims & approach for MEYER group that is the reference and guideline for all ESG related work in MEYER Group
  • Alignment and Obtaining approval from MEYER Group’s ESG Committee for the defined ESG aims
  • Overall steering of a number of topic specific working groups (e.g. green shipyard workgroups at each major location, local CSRD working groups)
  • Point of contact for ESG topics for all stakeholders (management/customers/banks/politicians/NGOs)
  • Assessment of strategic ESG risks and opportunities 
  • Creating and enforcing communication guidelines regarding ESG topics based on the aligned ESG approach
  • ESG advisory of business units within the Meyer Group
  • Report to the Chairman of the ESG Committee including an overall ESG progress status

We expect:

  • Master’s degree of relevant studies (technology/sustainability)
  • Several years of experience in shipbuilding industry, preferably cruise ship building
  • Team leadership experience, preferably with external communication experience
  • Knowledge of the cruise market and actual ESG requirements within maritime environment (customers/politics/banks/NGOs) is an advantage
  • International experience in expert groups/lobby is an advantage
  • Professional communication skills in English needed, additional knowledge of Finnish/German language is an advantage
  • Willingness to travel
