Senior GNSS Engineer – Measurement Layer
Would you like to experience the thrill of working from the ground up on a first-generation product? Are you passionate about delivering the optimum design for multiple customers? Do you seek a position where your accomplishments matter? oneNav is building a next generation GNSS receiver that will shake up the industry. There will be opportunities to broaden your skill set in areas such as GNSS, various assemblers, RTL verification and firmware development. This position is based in Tampere, Finland with an established hybrid working environment.
Location: Tampere / Finland, remote/hybrid work
Employment type: Full-time
About the Role
We’re seeking a Senior GNSS Engineer to drive the architecture and development of our GNSS measurement layer—the critical foundation of positioning accuracy and robustness. You’ll own the design and implementation of sophisticated algorithms for signal tracking, acquisition, and interference mitigation that operate in real-world conditions: urban canyons, contested RF environments, and multi-constellation scenarios. This is an algorithm design and implementation role for someone who combines deep GNSS expertise with hands-on software engineering skills. You’ll architect solutions, write production code, and directly influence product performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect measurement layer algorithms – Design and implement advanced tracking algorithms, acquisition engines, and anti-jamming/anti-spoofing techniques
- Drive performance optimization – analyze signal quality, tracking sensitivity; optimize algorithms for accuracy, robustness, and computational efficiency
- Develop production-ready implementations – write high-quality, maintainable C code that meets real-time constraints and runs on resource-limited embedded platforms
- Lead technical investigations – conduct simulation studies, analyze field test data, and use Python/Jupyter notebooks to validate designs and guide architectural decisions
- Enable system integration – collaborate with RF engineers, firmware developers, and positioning algorithm teams to deliver end-to-end GNSS solutions
- Solve challenging RF problems – design mitigation strategies for multipath, interference, jamming, and spoofing in contested environments
- Mentor and influence – share expertise through design reviews, documentation, and technical leadership within the team
Required Qualifications
- Deep GNSS measurement layer knowledge including:
- Signal tracking architectures (traditional and advanced loop designs, KF-based tracking)
- Acquisition techniques (parallel code-phase search, FFT-based methods, assisted acquisition)
- Interference mitigation (pulse blanking, notch filtering, spatial processing)
- Jamming detection and mitigation strategies
- Multi-constellation, multi-frequency receiver concepts (GPS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS, SBAS)
- 5+ years of GNSS measurement layer algorithm development with proven track record of deployed systems
- Proficiency in C programming with the ability to write efficient, portable, well-structured code for embedded real-time systems
- Strong Python skills – NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib, Jupyter for simulation, analysis, and visualization
- Solid understanding of software development lifecycle, version control, and testing methodologies
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment
- English proficiency – effective written and verbal communication
- MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or related field
Preferred qualifications
- Hands-on GNSS receiver development – commercial, defence, or research receiver projects
- Real-time embedded systems experience – RTOS, bare-metal programming, hardware constraints
- Advanced DSP techniques – adaptive filtering, spectral estimation, array processing
