Communications Specialist

Posted on 28 Nov 2025

Description

We are Helsinki Shipyard – celebrating 160 years of shipbuilding excellence. Since 1865, we have been designing, building, and commissioning tailor-made, high-class passenger vessels and icebreakers for extreme conditions. We proudly continue the legacy of Helsinki’s own Shipyard, right in the heart of Helsinki.

With us, you get to design and build the ships under one roof from start to finish, in close collaboration with our customers. Our specialty lies in vessels that operate on the polar seas, but we can build everything from smaller yachts to complex multi-purpose icebreakers. To provide you with some perspective, we've built 50% of the world's icebreakers - without us it would be hard to navigate in the icy seas!

We are now building a new heavy icebreaker for the Canadian government. The vessel will be constructed in Helsinki before being completed at Davie's shipyard in Quebec by 2030. Read more about the project here!

Since November 2023, Helsinki Shipyard has been a part of Group Davie together with SATA Shipbuilding in Pori and Chantier Davie in Levie, Quebec.

We are now looking for a Communications Specialist to join our team and support both daily communications and long-term initiatives during an exciting phase of growth.

Your Role

As a Communications Specialist, you will be responsible for producing clear, engaging, and timely communications across the Helsinki Shipyard organization. You will support internal and external communications, content creation, and project-related communication needs while working closely with the Director of Public Affairs Antti Leino and the Communications Manager.

You will:

  • Manage and develop internal communication channels, including the intranet, info screens, and the employee magazine Loki.

  • Maintain and grow our social media channels (LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook) with relevant and engaging content.

  • Create presentations, newsletters, and various communication materials.

  • Provide visual and printed materials such as signage, banners, and event programs.

  • Support project-specific communications (vessel-specific materials, invitations, agendas).

  • Participate in media monitoring and reporting.

  • Coordinate visitor groups on the shipyard premises.

  • Assist in organizing events and employer branding campaigns.

This is a hands-on, varied communications role. One day you may publish a news update, the next coordinate a visitor tour, prepare social media content, or support a major stakeholder event on site.

What We’re Looking For

Experience

  • 2–4 years of experience in communications, media, or related roles. A relevant degree in communications, business, or a related field.

  • Experience creating digital and visual content.

  • Experience working with social media in a professional context.

Skills

  • Strong writing skills and the ability to communicate clearly in both Finnish and English.

  • Good visual communication skills and confidence with presentation tools.

  • Good organizational and coordination skills; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Familiarity with social media management and basic content design tools is an advantage.

Personal Qualities

  • Proactive, hands-on, and eager to take responsibility.

  • Service-minded, collaborative, and comfortable working with various teams and stakeholders.

  • Curious, motivated, and willing to learn the specifics of maritime and shipbuilding communications.

Why Join Us

At Helsinki Shipyard, you will be part of one of the world’s most unique industrial environments — right in the center of Helsinki. You will contribute to projects that have national and global impact, from state-of-the-art icebreakers to modern, environmentally responsible vessels.

You will be part of:

  • A fast-developing communications function where your work has real visibility and impact.

  • A dynamic and international environment where every day offers something new.

  • A collaborative culture built on trust, professionalism, and pride in Finnish shipbuilding expertise.

  • A role with unique proximity to shipbuilding operations — you will see and communicate about the work happening just outside your office window.

“Helsinki Shipyard and our operations in Finland are in rapid growth. Proactive and professional communications are essential when engaging internally and externally” - Antti Leino, Director of Public Affairs, Group Davie

Some remote work is possible, but we value regular on-site presence at the shipyard. If you have a portfolio to showcase your work, we’d love to see it.
