to join us at the Center for Machine Vision and Signal Analysis (CMVS) at the unit of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (ITEE).
CMVS is a creative, open, and internationally attractive research center that combines the expertise of the University of Oulu's computer vision and biosignal analysis scientists. Through decades of expertise and extensive international collaboration, CMVS continues to conduct internationally recognized work at the cutting edge of its research areas.

About the job
The position is part of the Research Fellow project "Towards Moravec's Paradox: Decoding Human Spontaneous Behaviors for Sentient AI from Cognitive Aspects" (2025–2029) at the University of Oulu, funded by the Academy of Finland, see more details.
Your responsibilities will be assisting with different tasks related to the project implementation, such as:
- Assisting in the collection and organization of multimodal human behavior datasets, including video, motion, and physiological signals.
- Helping prepare research outputs such as figures, experimental results, and supplementary materials for scientific publications.
- Supporting the implementation and evaluation of machine learning and deep learning experiments related to human behavior understanding.
- Assisting in drafting and preparing project reports, funding proposals, and documentation for research projects.
- Supporting the coordination of project activities, including dataset management, experiment tracking, and collaboration with research team members.
- Participating in research discussions and contributing to the development of experimental ideas.

Who are you?
To enjoy and succeed in the position, we expect from you:- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, data science, or a related field.
- Basic experience with machine learning, deep learning, or computer vision.
- Programming experience in Python and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a research team and manage multiple tasks.
- Good written and spoken English communication skills.

Salary
The position is a fixed-term for 2 years, starting on May 1st, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The salary will be based on levels 4-5 of the demand level chart for other experts and support staff of Finnish universities. The position is a part-time (50%). In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). The gross salary will be approximately 1200-1500 € per month (before taxes), considering the part-time work.
A 6-month trial period applies to the position.
