About the role

As a Summer Trainee in Nuclear Safety, you will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of topics and contribute to projects that support both the Loviisa nuclear power plant and new nuclear initiatives.

 Depending on your background, interests, and strengths, your tasks may include:

• Supporting functional design and safety requirements
• Working on safety and seismic classifications
• Assisting in safety analyses and preparing technical studies or reports
• Contributing to emergency and abnormal operating procedures
• Participating in activities related to new nuclear projects
• Developing a data visualisation tool for nuclear accident analysis

This role is ideal for students who want to learn about the nuclear industry and take steps toward building a career in the field. You will have opportunities to connect with other trainees, expand your network, and learn from the experienced professionals in a low-hierarchy, supportive environment.

Nuclear Safety is a part of Fortum’s Engineering & Projects (E&P) business area, located in Espoo, Finland. Our team has a wide range of different competencies which are utilized in supporting safe and efficient operations of the Loviisa nuclear power plant, our co-owned nuclear units, external nuclear customers, the development of new nuclear, and nuclear R&D activities in Fortum. 

About you

We’re looking for students in the early stages of their studies who are eager to learn more and contribute to our purpose: to power a world where people, businesses, and nature thrive together.

We hope that you apply for the position if you are:

• Organized and meticulous, and you do not shy away from routine tasks. You work well within a team but are also capable of working independently.
• Pursuing a degree in the field of technology. Background in energy technology, power plant technology, mechanical engineering, or nuclear engineering is considered an advantage.
• Fluent in written and spoken English and Finnish. Internal Loviisa related assignments are mostly done in Finnish, while English is used with the external customers.
