About your role

Phase1 is Orion’s paid trainee programme designed for university students, bringing together a large and diverse group of talents from various fields every year. We are looking for a student with a strong interest in data and using it to investigate and resolve scientific questions. Data engineering/science trainee will collect, process, and analyze complex pharmaceutical datasets to generate actionable scientific insights. You will develop data analysis solutions — such as data pipelines, interactive dashboards and models — while collaborating closely with experts of various fields.  In this role you will be responsible for collecting, processing and analysing complex datasets to create new insights. You will develop and implement data analysis solutions such as interactive dashboards (e.g. using Spotfire), statistical or physical models to interpreet the data, and automated data pipelinesto streamline data processing workflows. Your responsibilities will include verifying the functionality and accuracy of the solutions, documenting your work concurrently as it progresses, and presenting findings.You will work closely with experts of different fields to refine approaches and deliver impactful results.

The job is situated in Espoo. It starts in May and continues for 3 months. The exact duration will be agreed together with the applicant.

Our expectations

You are motivated to familiarize with data and its context, tackle new tasks and do research to work your way towards a solution. You like to work with data, organize and interpret it with mathematical and data analysis methods. You are accustomed to working out equations and coding.

You get along with people and you collaborate openly with people coming from different backgrounds. Communicating and documenting your work in English is natural for you. Familiarity with pharmaceutical dosage form development, pharmaceutical chemistry or materials science is a benefit. We expect you to have performed at least 2 years worth of applicable university level studies.

Our Phase1 trainees will be paid a monthly salary of €2370–2625, depending on the number of completed study credits. In addition, the Phase1 trainees are eligible to various employee benefits offered by the company.

Unit description

Orion’s pharmaceutical innovations are created within its R&D organization. We employ around 400 top professionals in the field of drug discovery and development. We work globally: in Espoo and Turku in Finland, in Nottingham in England and in New York, NY, USA. Orion R&D and the Innovative Medicines business division are dedicated to making a transformation to become a global player in the pain and oncology therapy areas.

Computational Pharmaceutics is a small team of data-oriented experts situated in the department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Orion Pharma R&D. Pharmaceutical Sciences is responsible for developing drug products and their quality control methods for preclinical and early clinical phases of drug development. Computational Pharmaceutics supports the drug product development process by creating valuable insights from data and providing solutions for data-related challenges in pharmaceutical sciences. We work in collaboration with a network of other data-minded experts, data engineers, data scientists, statisticians, and information management professionals in Orion. We are located in Espoo and work in hybrid mode.
