Join us as a Phase 1 trainee and get hands-on experience in developing AI-driven image analysis workflows. At the VivoScience unit in Turku, you’ll work alongside our team to analyze histological images and learn how cutting-edge technology is applied in real-world research.

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual with a background in biomedical sciences or related fields to join our VivoScience team in Turku. In this role, you will contribute to training Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based tools for image analysis of histological samples. This is an excellent opportunity to apply your technical and analytical skills in an industry setting. Finnish language skills are not required for this position. The work will start in May–June and last approximately 3–4 months. It is possible to arrange for part of this work to be carried out in Espoo.

Your key responsibilities

  • Support the development of AI-based image analysis tools for histological samples using Aiforia software.
  • Plan, execute and report AI training projects for image analysis under the guidance of experienced scientists.
  • Annotate images of tumor and neuronal tissues.
  • Perform routine microscope slide scanning when needed.
  • Collaborate with the team to support building up automated tools for image analysis.

Our expectations

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree and ongoing or near-complete Master’s studies in Cell Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, or related fields.
  • Previous experience with histological samples is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with image analysis is a plus.
  • Strong interest in working with AI-based tools.
  • Technical aptitude with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid IT skills.
  • Positive, proactive attitude and willingness to learn.

Our Phase1 trainees will be paid a monthly salary of €2370–2625, depending on the number of completed study credits. In addition, the Phase1 trainees are eligible to various employee benefits offered by the company.

Unit description

The VivoScience unit, located in Turku, consists of in vivo scientists and research associates. Our mission is to support Orion Pharma’s therapy areas—Pain and Oncology—through research processes. The team operates a histology laboratory and performs image analyses of various samples. We also conduct pharmacokinetic and toxicological in vivo studies to support preclinical research.
