Description

University Services and Innovation Unit is looking for a

Advisor / external funding (Life Sciences and Health)

for a fixed-term position until 29th February 2028.

The University of Helsinki is strengthening its innovation activities and the societal impact of its research. The strategic priorities are, in particular, to increase RDI cooperation with companies, support the creation of new student- and research-driven companies, establish open research infrastructures and experimentation environments, and strengthen the university’s innovation culture.

What we are looking for?

Your task is to build externally funded projects (especially under Horizon Europe) focusing on innovation activities, collaboration with companies, and ecosystem development, in cooperation with university researchers and external partners. Your duties include active developing of project ideas, scanning funding opportunities, forming and leading consortia. In addition, your responsibilities may include project manager tasks for funded projects and overseeing their implementation.

The position requires strong knowledge of funding instruments, especially Horizon Europe (Pillar 2 – Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness, and Pillar 3 – Innovative Europe), as well as practical experience in building projects. The role will mainly focus on innovation projects and collaboration related to the University of Helsinki’s Meilahti Campus (life sciences and health). A relevant educational background and expertise gained through previous work experience in these research areas are prerequisites for success in the role.

Expertise related to innovation activities and university–industry collaboration (including research collaboration, innovation ecosystems, development and experimentation environments, innovation and research infrastructures, commercialization, education and research activities) is considered an advantage. Project preparation work is mainly conducted in English, and success in the role requires fluent written and spoken English. Existing extensive international networks in relevant fields are also considered an asset.

Successful performance in the role requires the ability to work independently, vision and competence in building winning project portfolios, willingness to familiarize oneself with multiple content areas, and the ability to develop project collaboration with the university’s academic community and external partners.
