Description

As a Patent Specialist/Counsel, you will be part of a large global team of world-class professionals creating and managing Nokia’s leading patent portfolio. You will closely work with Nokia researchers, subject experts, and standard delegates to identify and protect high-value video standard related inventions and will play a key role from the idealization to claim charting of inventions. The role will also involve close collaboration with In-house members and External Counsels to create and prosecute high-quality applications towards patent grant. With your technical expertise and seamless link to abundant internal resources and monetization activities, you will add further value to our world-class patent portfolio development. You will have technical ownership of your patents in the Multimedia Video domain and will broadly manage device and service related video standards. The role of Patent Specialist/Counsel is key within the IP department at Nokia Technology Standards. Your responsibilities

  • Identifying, capturing, and managing IPR, with particular emphasis on invention evaluation. 
  • Work with inhouse patent professionals and external associates for creating high-quality patent applications in the Multimedia domain. 
  • Manage the prosecution of patent applications in multiple jurisdictions across the globe. 
  • Prepare and manage video standards related claim charts to support licensing and litigation projects. 
  • Promote a culture of innovation within the company whereby, the Patent Specialist/Counsel plays a vital role working closely with the R&D community and other inhouse patent professionals.

Your skills and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronics engineering, telecommunication, or any other closely related technology area relevant to Nokia’s business.
  • Strong knowledge in telecommunications/mobile industry. 
  • Deep technical knowledge on video related standards such as JVET, 3GPP and MPEG-I.
  • Good understanding on the patenting process with many years of experience of patent prosecution and drafting.
  • An ability to work proactively and collaboratively with other members within the team and across different business units. 
  • Ability to prioritise effectively, work efficiently and multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic environment to meet critical deadlines. 
  • Good communication skills. 

It would be nice if you also had:

  • A qualification or part qualified as European or National Patent Attorney or Patent Agent.
  • Strong R&D background with track record of inventions/patents in the multimedia domain.
  • At least 3 years of work experience in IPR or patenting.
  • At least 5 years experience of telecommunications related video standardisation.
