Together, Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences form a higher education community that places faith in people and scientific knowledge. Leading experts in the fields of technology, health and society are changing the world at Finland’s second largest multidisciplinary higher education institution. www.tuni.fi/en

Be it energy harvesting and storage, sustainable use of resources, or fight against diseases, chemistry is central to solving many of present-day global challenges. Our vision at Tampere University is that disruptive solutions to many global problems rely on the development of new molecules and materials and on in-depth understanding of their behaviour. Around these themes, the University has decided to further strengthen its chemistry activities through new tenure track appointments.

We invite applications for 1-2 tenure-track positions within the broad field dealing with Chemistry of Functional Molecular Materials. While we are broadly interested in excellent candidates who can complement our present activities, we will give special attention to candidates who have strong expertise in some of the following fields:

  • Organic chemistry, for example:
    • Synthesis of functional molecules
    • Supramolecular chemistry
    • Polymer synthesis
  • Materials chemistry, for example:
    • Nanochemistry or nanomaterials
    • Solar-driven chemistry
    • Functional/photonic materials

We are looking for candidates who have excellent future potential at their respective career stage and who can establish independent world-class research activities at Tampere University.

If successful, you will be placed at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Full Professor, based on your experience and expertise. While in the early stages of your career (especially in Assistant Professor position) the focus is on research, in time you will be expected to contribute increasingly to teaching, curriculum development and graduate and post-graduate student supervision.

The positions will be placed in the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, in the Chemistry and Advanced Materials (CAM) community. Our research strategy is to use chemical approaches for the design and fabrication of functional compounds and materials. We also offer a broad and high-level chemistry education required for successful career development in research and industry.

We presently have five research teams at CAM. Synthetic Chemistry team develops bioactive organic substances, functional photoactive compounds and new synthesis methods. Photonic Compounds and Nanomaterials team works on the design, modelling, and characterisation of novel photoactive structures which for example can be used by Hybrid Solar Cells team in their work towards eco-friendly, low-cost, and stable photovoltaics. Smart Photonic Materials team develops functional and stimuli-responsive systems for applications in soft-matter photonics, soft robotics and biomaterials science. Supramolecular Chemistry of Bio- and Nanomaterials team develops tools to track and analyze interactions of drug carriers and cells and tailored materials for pharmaceutical applications.
