Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences create a unique environment for multidisciplinary, inspirational and high-impact research and education. Our universities community has its competitive edges in technology, health and society. www.tuni.fi/en

The Laboratory for Future Electronics (LFE) at the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences researches materials, processes, devices and systems for future generation electronics. Our laboratory facilities for printing and characterizing materials and devices are state of the art and include multiple high precision printers, an inert gas processing facility and, from end of 2019, a multi-source atomic layer deposition unit integrated to the inert gas system. We have a position opening in the new Business Finland Project “Ecotronics” for a doctoral student researcher.

Job description

The Researcher’s position focuses on solution processed thin film devices and circuits (e.g. rectifying diodes and voltage regulators) for implementation in an energy module for autonomous low power sensors and electronics.  The work will include preparation and detailed physical characterization of devices as well as design, fabrication and testing of circuits based on these devices. Preparation methods to be used include spin coating, various printing processes, vacuum evaporation and possibly atomic layer deposition. You will be integrated into the team of the Laboratory for Future Electronics, with expertise in materials science, physics, chemistry and electronics, and will work together with other members of the Ecotronics consortium, including research organizations, universities and industries.

Requirements

The position is intended for applicants with a masters degree in a relevant field, such as electrical engineering, physics or materials science. A background in printed electronics, physical electronics or solid-state physics would be an advantage. Willingness to learn about new processes, materials and devices is a requirement. The working language at LFE is English so good English is required.

The selected candidate is expected to be eligible for and enroll in the doctoral studies programme in electrical engineering at Tampere University. Please visit the admissions webpage https://www.tuni.fi/en/study-with-us/programmes/doctoral-programmes for more information on eligibility requirements.

We offer

The position will be filled for a fixed-term, starting 2 January 2020 and continuing through 30 September 2021, with the possibility to extend if funding is available. A trial period of six (6) months applies to all our new employees.

The salary will be based on both the job demand level and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System.
