The University of Turku is a world-class multidisciplinary research university which offers interesting challenges and a unique vantage point to national and international research and education.
The Turku Institute for Advanced Studies (TIAS) wishes to employ a part-time (10 %), fixed-term professor of mentoring. This position will be available for a period of one month on an annual basis between 2020 and 2023, starting from 1 March 2020.

Description of the tasks and selection criteria for the visiting professors:

The Person

-  The person who is selected for the position is required to have qualifications as a professor or to be of equivalent standing

-  The position is the equivalent of four weeks work which, subject to approval, may take place over the course of a calendar year. The first appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of annual renewal.

-  The selected person is required to be present for 4 weeks per year at the main campus of the University of Turku.

-   Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience of mentoring early- and mid-career researchers across the social sciences and humanities.

-  Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate commitment to - and experience of - interdisciplinary working.

-  A track record of high-level publications and the securing of external research funding is desirable.

-  While positions are open to all applicants, preference may be given to applicants who can demonstrate existing links to the University of Turku

The Role

- Applicants should have a vision of how they will fulfil this role. We will consult with the appointee about the precise range of duties, of which we envisage at least the following:

- Providing mentoring for TIAS researchers and other UTU staff as appropriate

- Holding mentoring workshops or other activities as appropriate

- Holding one-to-one mentoring sessions with TIAS researchers

- Liaising with Research Careers Unit on mentoring in the University

- Developing mentoring for TIAS’ Scholars at Risk activities within and beyond TIAS

- Participating in TIAS meetings

- Offering strategic advice to the TIAS Director and Board of Management

- Presenting a public lecture on own expertise

- Other duties as required by the Director

The salary for this particular post is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel (YPJ). The salary shall be determined when drawing up the employment contract. Travel and accommodation expenses can be taken account.
