Tampere University is a sough-after partner for both industry and public organisations. Our Collaborations and Partnerships Unit is now looking for an experienced builder of interorganisational cooperation and partnerships to join our team. The successful candidate will support the University’s research, development and innovation activities and collaboration with new and existing partners.

Our unit, The Collaborations and Partnerships, is in charge of university-wide engagement and connectivity with stakeholders. We are a dynamic group of team players who look outwards from the University community. Our services are focused on the corporate interface, international partnerships, congress services, events and co-creation platform support around the academic core and student entrepreneurial engagement. We work in close collaboration not only with the stakeholders of innovation ecosystems but also with the University’s senior management, other support units (such as Research Services and Communications), students and the faculties ranging from deans all the way to research groups and principal investigators.

Job description

Do you want to be our latest team player?  Universities community is strengthening the collaboration interface during 2020. We are now seeking for agile business development manager who can tap into future collaboration opportunities and unify the offerings to meet the requirements of the MATRIX modus operandi.

Your main responsibility will be to support the management and execution of multiple simultaneous projects and cooperation proposals. You will be expected to support ideation processes, clarify research programmes and take part in finalising research agreements together with the University’s legal team.

As part of our Collaborations and Partnerships Team, you will actively support faculty leadership and academic personnel in planning, building, maintaining and developing collaborative relationships between the University and society, especially with corporate partners. Your role will be to act as a key account manager who understands and communicates the needs of our corporate customers to the University’s researchers and vice versa.

In practice, your role will include active new opportunity scouting and evaluating, sales activities, negotiation strategy planning, active negotiations and the preparation of materials, business collaboration proposals and presentations. You will contribute to the University’s active CRM practices and develop operating models as needed. You will also be assigned to coordinate selected projects and relationships / working groups. This position will naturally entail close collaboration with the University’s other support units (such as Legal Services, Research Services, Innovation Services etc.) as well as with the faculties and the senior management.

Requirements

No one is perfect but.. The successful candidate will be expected to have:

  • a master’s degree in the field of technology or business or other applicable degree or experience

  • applicable business development and project working experience in a company or university, preferably with an interface of industry and academic cooperation

  • understanding of dissemination and an impact concept for a university

  • strong understanding on P/L business management, R&D and key account management

  • hands-on experience of taking research to business including IPR and ownership, business models, solution management and contractual issues

  • strong background and understanding of building win-win long-term cooperation with industrial companies and accelerating knowledge transfer

  • demonstrated working knowledge of managing and executing large-scale international projects with a multitude of interfaces

  • ability to gain internal support, operate independently with limited supervision and feedback, and establish solid working relationships with senior management, support staff and researchers across the University

  • capability of using information systems, especially CRM systems

  • fluency in business English and Finnish skills 

  • willingness to travel (< 50 days /year)

The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience of turning ideas to concrete projects. An understanding and previous experience of research and an academic environment will be considered an advantage.

The job will be filled on a permanent basis as of 1 March 2020 or as soon as possible.  A trial period is applied as stipulated by the Employment Contracts Act.

The salary is based on the group of other staff in the salary system for universities. The preliminary requirement level of the job is 9-11. In addition, a performance-based salary element is paid.

Haemme liiketoiminnan kehittämispäällikköä toistaiseksi voimassa olevaan tehtävään 1.3.2020 alkaen tai mahdollisimman pian. Tehtävässä on työsopimuslain mukainen kuuden kuukauden koeaika ja työsuhde on kokoaikainen.
