We have broad expertise in low temperature physics, sensors, electronics, and measurement technology, and cover the field from fundamental science to industrial applications. We are based in Micronova, Otaniemi, utilizing the largest micro- and nanofabrication facility in Northern Europe (http://www.micronova.fi/nanofabrication_centre-002/micronova_nanofabrication_cleanroom/).

In this thesis position, you will focus on developing passive THz imaging for the purpose of detecting concealed objects. This is a great opportunity for a person interested in gaining an overview of how a complex instrument is developed, all the way from studying detector physics, designing and fabricating chips to implementing complete imaging systems.

Main responsibilities:
• Characterising low-temperature detectors
• Conducting imaging experiments with THz video camera
• Performing data analysis of the measurements
There is great flexibility in choosing the focus of the work, based on the applicant’s background/ambitions and personal guidance by a mentor.

We expect you to have

• You are a Master student in the field of physics, applied physics, electrical engineering and/or related field
• Basic level of programming skills, e.g. Matlab and/or Python
