The Finnish Museum of Natural History, Luomus, (www.luomus.fi/en) is an independent institute of the University of Helsinki, which is constituted to keep, augment, and display the national natural history collections, and to carry out research and teaching related to these. The Zoology Unit of Luomus is responsible for the zoological collections and long-term monitoring data. The Unit carries out research in systematics, biogeography, and conservation biology, and has c. 40 employed staff members.

The Zoology Unit of the Finnish Museum of Natural History is inviting applications for a position of a

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER

(fixed term of 3 years) on the project ‘DISEASE-ON-WINGS: The effect of climate change on dynamics of zoonoses in migratory birds and bats across Europe’ using birds as a study taxon. The preferred starting time is 16 March 2020. Two other postdocs will be also recruited to the project.

The researcher will be working in study group of the Helsinki Lab of Ornithology, which is part of the Monitoring Team of the Zoology Unit. There is a six-month trial period for the position.

The postdoc applicants must hold a doctoral degree in biology, and has an international publication record demonstrating competence in ecology. Experience in working with large datasets, species distribution modelling, knowledge on bird ecology, bird ringing experience, parasites and microbes as well as inclination to team work are considered further assets. Proficiency in English is essential.

The salary will be based on level 5 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. The total monthly salary is EUR 3 300–3 500 depending on the qualifications and experience.
