Program Manager, New Technology

The Business Unit Automation as part of Business Area Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology is driving an exciting revolutionary transformation of the Mining industry. This industry is going totally digital, which has a radical impact on our customers’ way of thinking, their processes and the way they run their business. Sandvik is the global market leader in this area, offering cutting edge digital products and solutions for its customers worldwide. Our offerings today include solutions for fully automated and robotic mining machines for underground and surface mining applications (AutoMine®). Sandvik also has the best in class software solutions (OptiMine®) for creating a full-process transparency and control for mining operations including location tracking in GPS denied environments, real time 3D-imaging, artificial intelligence and predictive data analytics technologies.

We are currently looking for a Technical Program Manager for leading new technology development and product integration projects. You will be working with a team of technical experts, product development engineers and research scientists, closely co-operating with our product lines. This is a permanent role based in Tampere reporting directly to the Head of Product Development, Automation and you will be a member of the Automation Product Development Management Team.

Your responsibilities

You are responsible for controlling and leading a new technology development program including a spectrum of exciting new technologies. Your key responsibilities are:

  • Lead technology development programs
  • Plan and report the progress and proactively identify challenges and opportunities and make suggestions
  • Challenge, coach and understand technical solutions to best fit incremental product implementation
  • Create and maintain a roadmap on new technology commercialization availability based on technology readiness level assessment
  • Collaborate with large number of internal and external stakeholders to ensure program success

Your skills & qualifications

You have a university level technical education and prior experience of developing autonomous vehicles and/or industrial automation technology. You have hands on experience in modern software technologies, AI, machine learning and machine vision. You are fluent in English and you have at least 10 years of experience in driving research and technology development projects. You can establish strong professional relationships directly with relevant stakeholders and communicate with them at all levels. You have a natural interest and skills with modern technologies and and find innovative solutions to complex problems. You have excellent leadership, change management, networking, presentation and negotiation skills. You can work proactively and systematically in a fast-changing business environment with a strong success focus. You have willingness to travel internationally.
