Wärtsilä Technical Services is looking for a Technical Expert to strengthen the Power Systems and Cylinder Head Expert Team in Parts and Field Service. We offer you the possibility for professional development in a multicultural environment where you gain deep knowledge of 4-stroke engines including their applications in both power plants and marine installations.

This opportunity is offered as a 6-month temporary contract and the preferred location is Vaasa, Finland. Turku, Finland or Trieste, Italy can also be considered.

What will you be doing?

A Technical Expert supports our customers to improve the technical and operating performance of our products. We therefore seek you, who holds an appropriate technical background and willingness to gain knowledge of engine components within the main area of cylinder head and valve mechanism of Wärtsilä 4-stroke small and medium bore engines.

We are looking for a person who is eager to adapt to innovative technologies, and that has a proactive way of thinking, entrepreneurial initiative, fast innovation skills, independent decision-making capability, and good co-operation skills.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing internal and external customers with technical support.
  • Product improvement support: Collecting, analysing, and sharing of field experiences of assigned components of 4-stroke engines.
  • New product release support: Participation in field follow-up investigations of new engine products.
  • Acquiring know-how from the latest developments and trends within own expertise area.
  • Coordinating and performing failure analysis of engine components.
  • Delivering content for manuals, after sales information, and training.
  • Supporting our sales in the retrofit and upgrade activities.
  • Supporting our supply management in validation and development of suppliers.

The below will enable you to shine in this technical advisory role:

  • M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent education.
  • Motivation and a genuine interest in working with 4-stroke engines.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Strong communication and self-management skills.
  • Experience with analysis and reporting.
  • Proactive, systematic, and organized way of working
  • Flexible attitude and a service-oriented mindset.
  • Passion to learn, adapt to, and develop new technologies.
  • Readiness to travel when needed.

The below experience will be considered an advantage:

  • Experience of diesel and/or gas engine component troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Knowledge of designing and manufacturing processes of cylinder head components, including principles of material selection and casting technology.
  • Basic understanding of destructive and non-destructive testing methods.
