We are now looking for a Project Engineer, Piping to join our Uruguay Development Project team in Helsinki, Finland. This position covers piping implementation co-ordination over all areas in the pulp mill project.

As the global mega-trends drive the consumer demand of pulp, UPM is looking into a long-term growth opportunity in Uruguay. UPM has signed and announced an investment decision with the Government of Uruguay to establish a competitive operating platform for a new eucalyptus pulp mill in Uruguay. 

The new pulp mill will have an annual capacity of about 2 million tonnes of eucalyptus pulp each year. The mill, forestry and related activities will create around 10,000 new permanent jobs in its full value chain. The site of the mill will be close to the city of Paso de los Toros, in department of Durazno in the central Uruguay. 

We need the right people to make it all reality. This is an exciting opportunity to gain valuable international project experience as the team is first based in Helsinki, Finland and later (H1/2021) the work will continue at the mill site in Uruguay. At the time of relocation you will be offered comprehensive support. The assignment in Uruguay will last until the end of 2022.

What you’ll do 

  • Collaborate with the mill design team, engineering companies and suppliers in piping engineering, purchasing and supervising the execution and manufacturing
  • Ensure that project piping schedules are met and progress is reported  
  • Ensure (part member of the mill design team) that piping engineering is done according to the overall project and safety standards

Who you are

  • You are highly committed to safety
  • You have strong experience and proven results in similar large-scale international pulp mill projects or operations from your previous positions
  • You have a solid understanding of the different areas related to the piping design, technical planning and construction of a new pulp mill
  • You have a solid understanding of the piping EN-standards and PED-requirements
  • You have a proven capability to manage large entities independently within project timelines and targets
  • You are a talented person with good ability to lead yourself and others in international business environment
  • You are fluent both in spoken and written English. Finnish and Spanish language skills are considered as an asset
  • You are interested in an international working environment and career opportunity
