Description of the position
The NovelBaltic project (web page: centria.fi/novelbaltic) is part of the Interreg Baltic Sea Region programme which is funded by European regional development fund and led by the University of Oulu, Finland. The goal of this international project is to help increase the value of non-timber forest products by developing quality and authentication methods applicable to products which contain species important for the Baltic sea region and emerging markets in South east Asia and China.
The project researcher will develop and test DNA-based authentication methods for berry species and participate in writing and publishing scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals. He/she will also be responsible for coordinating the activities in the project’s authentication-related work package and participate in the reporting of the project activities. Moreover, the position will include some travelling as the researcher will take part in project meetings and events.
The position is scheduled to be filled for the period from September 2020 to May 2021.
Requirements
Doctoral student at his/her final stages or post doc in plant physiology, molecular biology, biochemistry or related field. The researcher is expected to have experience in molecular methods and working with plants. He/she is also required to conduct research independently and to be fluent in English. The research is conducted in collaboration with international research groups and hence good skills in collaborative working and communication are appreciated.
Salary
Salary will be based on levels 8-9 on the requirement level chart for “other staff” in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition to the basic salary, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance with a maximum of 50 % of the basic salary. The full salary is approximately 3,500 euros per month. The position is subject to a trial period of 4 months.
