Description of position

We are looking for a highly motivated professional with a background in cancer biology to join the Cancer Genomic Medicine team within the Oncology Research laboratory in Turku, Finland. Starting according to agreement.

As a Senior Scientist, you will contribute to new target evaluations and conduct early target validation and mechanism of action studies. You will also work as an expert in multidisciplinary discovery project teams. Your responsibilities will include hands-on laboratory work such as assay setup and validation, as well as functional studies. You will support projects by interpreting data and documenting and communicating the results. A part of your job is planning and coordinating external collaborations with CROs and/or academia. You will also participate in setting up and implementing new technologies.

Description of unit

Orion's pharmaceutical innovations are created within its R&D organization, including non-clinical research and clinical development. The organization employs top professionals in the field of drug discovery and development. Oncology Research is accountable for the discovery of novel targets and drug projects in the therapy area of oncology at Orion. You will be based in Turku, where we have three focus areas:  Immuno-Oncology, Cancer Genomic Medicine, and Tumor Growth Regulation. You will be part of the Cancer Genomic Medicine team but work in close collaboration with the other research organisations of Orion. Requirements

  • PhD in cancer biology or related fields with preferably at least 5 years of post-doctoral experience. Pharma industry experience is considered an advantage.
  • Expertise in DNA damage/repair, epigenetics and genomics is preferred
  • Hands-on experience in common cell and molecular biology techniques such as cell culture, cell survival and proliferation assays, imaging assays, ELISA, Western blotting, cellular manipulation such as transfections and CRISPR-Cas9 or si/shRNA techniques, preparation and analysis of DNA and RNA and qPCR
  • Previous working experience in set up of experimental models
  • Solid understanding of experimental design, underlying scientific principles and the ability to analyze and interpret data
  • Demonstrated good team and networking skills
  • Ability to communicate in written and spoken English
  • Enthusiastic, innovative and science-oriented mindset
