Data Engineer, Non-Life Insurance

About the role

Your goal is to develop suitable ETL solutions to transfer Non-Life insurance data for reporting, analytics and machine learning needs. You are leading and developing the use of AWS-based analytics and Big Data solutions. In other words, you harness our data to support business decisions. You will be creating and enabling capabilities that help the data be understandable, visual and easy to access.

You participate in deciding which data we are collecting, from where and how we are warehousing it. Additionally, you analyze the data to support our business and development needs. Because you are an expert on your field, we hope you participate in strategic plans and projects, which are related to digitalization, AWS-based analytics and Big Data. You’ll be working in tribe which is responsible Non-Life Insurance products, but your own Data & Knowledge organization has your back in everything you do.

What you need to succeed

We are looking for a candidate who likes to work hands-on and understands the business value of data. You don’t need to have several years of experience, but you have already gained expertise in data warehouse, ETL implementation and data quality.

You have good general knowledge of AWS infrastructure and its components. As programming languages, we use SQL, Scala, Java, Python, R, Spark and SAS. The more experience in previous the better. As ETL tools we use DataStage and Kafka. You don’t have to excel everything from the day one, as learning while and by doing and eagerness to learn are profound elements of our culture here in OP. And as stated above, you are not alone – your team and colleagues are here to help you.

We use agile methods and DevOps, so we hope that you are familiar with those and you have an agile mindset. Your way of working is goal-oriented and analytical; you are good at prioritizing tasks, you have good time management skills and you are good at working under pressure. You are solution oriented and you have a way to motivate others to participate and create new solutions together. In work-related matters you communicate fluently in English. Finnish skills are an advantage, but not mandatory.
