The Institute of Biosciences and Medical Technology (BioMediTech) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology at Tampere University is looking for a university lecturer in Biomedical Engineering.

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology is dedicated to pursuing world-class research and delivering high-quality education in the fields of biomedical engineering, biotechnology, medicine and health technology. At Tampere University, we are responsible for providing BSc-level, MSc-level, licentiate and doctoral education in these fields.  We employ more than 600 people, 70 of them professors.  

BioMediTech’s research and education cover a wide spectrum of topics ranging from bioimaging, biomaterials, biomeasurements, biosensors and biorobotics to personal health technologies, experimental and computational biomedicine, and cell and tissue engineering. Through fostering close collaboration with the groups specialising in bioengineering and medicine within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology,  BioMediTech offers a teaching and research environment that is unique in Finland.    

We are now looking to strengthen our education and seek candidates for university lecturer especially in the areas of bioimaging and biomeasurements, personal health technologies or computational biomedical engineering.  

Job description

The university lecturer in biomedical engineering will have the following duties and responsibilities: 

• deliver and promote teaching in his or her field;
• supervise students working on their theses;
• actively participate in the development of teaching and curriculum design;
• pursue and supervise scientific research in his or her field;
• keep track of scientific progress in his or her field
• Interact with the broader society and engage in international collaboration.

Requirements

The successful candidate will be expected to hold an applicable doctoral degree and have the ability to deliver high-quality research-based teaching and instruction and supervise students working on their theses. In addition, the position requires strong organisational and collaboration skills and a good command of English.   

When considering candidates, we will take into account their practical familiarity with the field of the position, their teaching experience and pedagogical studies, their ability to develop teaching materials, their other teaching merits and their research track record. 

We offer

The university lecturer will be hired on a permanent basis. The start date will be 1 January 2021, unless another date is mutually agreed between the parties.  A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.

The salary will be based on the job demands and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. The position of university lecturer is placed at levels 6-7 in the salary system.

Tampereen yliopiston Lääketieteen ja terveysteknologian tiedekunnan BioMediTech-yksikössä on avoinna biolääketieteen tekniikan yliopistonlehtorin tehtävä.

Lääketieteen ja terveysteknologian tiedekunta tekee korkeatasoista tieteellistä tutkimusta ja merkittävää opetusta biolääketieteen tekniikan, bioteknologian sekä lääketieteen alueella. Näillä alueilla tiedekunta vastaa luonnontieteen ja tekniikan kandidaattien, filosofian maisterien, diplomi-insinöörien ja lääketieteen lisensiaattien perustutkintokoulutuksesta sekä näiden alojen tohtorikoulutuksesta. Henkilöstöä tiedekunnalla on yli 600, joista professoreja on 70. 

Biolääketieteen tekniikan alueella tiedekunnan BioMediTech-yksikössä keskeiset tutkimuksen ja opetuksen alueet ovat biokuvantaminen, biomateriaalit, biomittaukset, biosensorit ja biorobotiikka, henkilökohtaiset terveystekniikat, kokeelliset ja laskennalliset biolääketieteen menetelmät, sekä solu- ja kudosteknologiat. Näillä alueilla teemme erittäin läheistä yhteistyötä tiedekunnan biotekniikan sekä lääketieteen sovellusalueilla ja muodostamme Suomessa ainutlaatuisen laajan opetuksen ja tutkimuksen kokonaisuuden.  

Haemme nyt vahvistusta biolääketieteen tekniikan opetukseen ja haemme yliopistonlehtoria erityisesti biokuvantamisen  ja -mittausten, henkilökohtaisten terveysteknologioiden tai laskennallisten biolääketieteen teknologioiden alueilla.

Tehtävänkuvaus

Biolääketieteellisen tekniikan yliopistonlehtorin tehtävänä on 

• antaa ja edistää alansa opetusta
• ohjata opinnäytetöitä
• osallistua aktiivisesti tutkinto-ohjelman opetuksen kehittämiseen ja opetussuunnitelmatyöhön
• harjoittaa ja ohjata tieteellistä tutkimustyötä
• seurata tieteen kehitystä alalla
• osallistua yhteiskunnalliseen vuorovaikutukseen ja alan kansainväliseen yhteistoimintaan. 

Edellytykset

Yliopistonlehtorin tehtävään valittavalta edellytämme soveltuvaa tohtorintutkintoa sekä kykyä antaa laadukasta tutkimukseen perustuvaa opetusta ja ohjata opinnäytetöitä. Tehtävän menestyksellinen hoitaminen edellyttää lisäksi hyviä organisointi- ja yhteistyötaitoja sekä hyvää englannin kielen taitoa.  

Hakijoiden ansioita arvioitaessa otamme huomioon käytännöllisen perehtyneisyyden tehtäväalaan, opetuskokemuksen ja pedagogiset opinnot, taidon tuottaa opetusmateriaalia sekä muut opetustehtävissä saavutetut ansiot sekä tieteellisen työn tulokset.

Tarjoamme

Yliopistonlehtorin työsuhde on toistaiseksi voimassa oleva ja työ alkaa 1.1.2021 tai sopimuksen mukaan. Tehtävässä on kuuden kuukauden koeaika.

Palkkaus perustuu tehtävien vaativuuteen ja henkilökohtaiseen työstä suoriutumiseen yliopistojen palkkausjärjestelmän mukaan. Yliopistonlehtorin tehtävä sijoittuu palkkausjärjestelmän vaativuustasolle 6-7.
