Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology is the leading provider of equipment and tools as well as maintenance and technical services for the mining industry. Its products include drill rigs, mechanical mining equipment, crushers, loading and hauling equipment and material processing equipment. The Tampere plant is a global technology and manufacturing center for drill rigs. Our Division Rock Drills & Technologies is now looking for an active and innovative Rock Knowledge Expert for the Rock Drills Business Unit to provide a competitive advantage through deep knowledge of rock and ore extraction process. This is a permanent position and based in Tampere, Finland.
Your role
Your key performance area is based on a deep understanding of distinct rock qualities and their impact on rock and ore extraction performance. You are accountable for developing rock knowledge with our technology development team as new strategic capability resulting in novel, information intensive services which improve customers’ excavation processes. You are a networker who will be working closely with rock drills product development as well as our equipment, parts and service businesses.
Your responsibilities also include the establishment of a rock knowledge related network and a rock knowledge database including links to global geological knowledge hubs. The role is an expert position that requires good communication skills and ability to coordinate work of internal and external parties effectively.
Your skills and qualifications
You have a degree (M.Sc.) in geology, geophysics or mining and more than five years’ professional work experience, with at least five years in the mining industry. Your passion is in turning data about geology and rock characteristics into valuable information to further improve productivity in rock excavation.
You have an independent, proactive and service-oriented can-do attitude, together with a systematic approach and the ability to stay on schedule. You are a team player with good cooperation skills who can communicate fluently both in Finnish and English. Your technical skill portfolio on the top of your geological rock knowledge consist of skills to utilize mine planning systems, information management and interaction with global key stakeholders of rock data.
