The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has four departments. An essential part of the activities of the Faculty is the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The Faculty is the only institution of higher education in Finland to educate veterinarians. It has about 750 undergraduate and postgraduate students and employs about 150 academic staff, which is about a half of the total staff number. The annual intake of new veterinary students is 70. The degree programmes have been accredited in accordance with the ESEVT system for the evaluation of veterinary education in Europe.

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine invites applications to a

TRAINING POSITION IN VETERINARY PATHOLOGY (1 YEAR INTERNSHIP + 3 YEARS RESIDENCY)

The fixed term position is available starting on 1 March 2021 for a maximum of 1+3 years.

The position is for three years (residency) as a training in preparation for the ECVP board examination, https://www.ecvpath.org/residency-training. If necessary, when the appointee is not familiar enough with veterinary pathology, the position may be for 4 years (1 year internship + 3 years residency).

This training position is at the Pathology Unit of the Department of Veterinary Biosciences, which is an ECVP registered residency training centre. It provides an exciting opportunity for a veterinarian interested in pursuing career in pathology. The appointee will undertake diagnostic pathology work (necropsy, biopsy and cytology duties) on a wide range of species and in close collaboration with the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and external practitioners. The appointee will also contribute to the veterinary undergraduate teaching to a limited extent. The residency also comprises a small research project to provide essential training in basic or applied research.

The appointee must be registered/licensed to practice as a veterinarian in European countries and have received veterinary qualification from an ESEVT-approved establishment. Experience from veterinary work in any field is a merit. To successfully attend the duties of the position, the appointee should be able to communicate fluently in Finnish and in English.

The salary will be based on levels 3-4 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system applied in Finnish Universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance. The gross salary is about 2 500–3 200 euros/month. The position has a probationary period of 6 months. Standard Finnish pension benefits and occupational health care are provided for University employees.
