The Centre for Multilingual Academic Communication (Movi) is a multicultural expert unit of academic language learning and teaching. Movi’s primary task is to organise communication and language studies for all bachelor’s and master’s degree students at the University of Jyväskylä (JYU), in compliance with Government Decree 794/2004, as well as to support the internationality of the university. In addition, we organise academic writing and research communication courses for doctoral students as well as communication and language training for JYU staff. In the position of Senior Lecturer, the focus is on teaching within the key subject area, research and development of teaching, participation in the supervision of theses and dissertations, and the acquisition of external funding. The appointee will contribute to achieving the goals, outlined in the education development programme of the university strategy, regarding the development of the following skills in JYU’s bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees: critical and scientific thinking, strong interaction competence, language skills, and cultural awareness. The work is supported by Movi’s research communication team, led by the Senior Lecturer.
A doctoral degree in a relevant field is required in the position. A degree in English or linguistics is regarded as a relevant background degree, but another discipline can also be considered. In addition, applicants are expected to have extensive university-level teaching experience in written and oral English research communication and evidence of research-based development of teaching. Experience of the supervision and assessment of theses and dissertations is also required. We expect good cooperation and interaction skills, diverse digital skills, a developmental and independent work approach, and good organising and stress tolerance skills. Experience in national or international projects and networks, as well as the ability to acquire external funding, are regarded as an advantage for the applicant.
The duties and qualification requirements for the position of the Senior Lecturer are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. The position requires excellent proficiency in English and at least satisfactory proficiency in Finnish. Other language skills are considered an advantage.
The annual salary range will be approximately 38.800 – 64.200 EUR (gross income, including holiday bonus), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
Six months trial period is applied to the filling of the position.

2. A list of publications covering the applicant’s scientific and other publications according to the instructions of the Academy of Finland
3. A maximum of five publications, which must be numbered according to the list of publications
4. A short (2 to 3 pages) written account of the applicant’s pedagogical training and teaching merits, i.e. a teaching portfolio
5. A short (2 to 4 pages) written account of the applicant’s scientific research, international activities, merits related to scientific activity and leading research, including the acquisition of supplementary funding and responsibilities in externally funded research projects, and experience in societal interaction
