Can you imagine a customer-friendly monitoring platform that can help chief mechanics in taking actions long before an alarm reaches the engine room of sailing LNG carriers and dredging vessels?! How fantastic would it be if this avoids wasting energy and resources? Take part in the next generation of predictive maintenance in the maritime sector. You will build great solutions that will ultimately help our customers in saving energy and resources while gaining safety. Join a team of more than 100 international professionals and help our Digital Development team in shaping a platform that focuses on detecting anomalies that indicate potential failures or reveal conditions involving the consumption of excess fuel. 

Our Digital Product Development (DPD) organization develops digital products for Wärtsilä business units (BU) in Marine Power, Marine Systems and Energy. DPD uses a common technology stack to generate insight from operational data, to make for example predictive maintenance- or efficiency optimization products such as Wärtsilä Expert Insight. DPD is growing from around 100 to 120 professionals.

We are looking for two  Cloud Platform Developers for our Data Bridge platform who have strong affinity with big data, data platforms and microservices. You work together with other developers on a data platform that is used to provide internal stakeholders high quality, high volume and high frequency data. In addition the data platform over time will also expand by integrating with other data platforms in the cloud.

DPD consists of around 15 agile teams organized in 4 tribes, with clear focus areas, led by Chief Product Owners. As a developer you will be part of one of the agile teams and will develop and maintain our data platform. This a permanent opportunity and would preferably be located at our office in Drunen, Netherlands, however we also consider our office in Helsinki, Finland as an option.  

As a Developer your work will focus on these responsibilities:  

  • You enjoy creating efficient and robust solutions that are scalable over hundreds of installations.
  • You participate in the development of our streaming data platform, pipelines, databases and APIs.
  • You align implementation efforts with other developers across multiple development teams.
  • You participate in the setup of monitoring for data pipeline status and data quality.
  • You are a team player and do not shy away from opportunities to help the team and product to grow.

To be successful in this role we expect you to have: 

  • You have a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Computer Science or at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with Kafka clusters, -streams, -connectors, KSQL and Kafka as a messaging and storage solution.
  • Experience with Java (Spring) and Python.
  • Experience with AWS services.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Experience with Ansible and Terraform.
  • Experience with serverless concepts such as AWS lambda is a plus.
  • Experience with Timeseries and noSQL databases.
  • Experience with automated testing and test driven development.
