Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences create a unique environment for multidisciplinary, inspirational and high-impact research and education. Our universities community has its competitive edges in technology, health and society. www.tuni.fi/en

Tampere University’s Laboratory for Future Electronics has an open position for Postdoctoral research fellow or Doctoral researcher work. The laboratory investigates technologies and solutions related to devices, circuits, sensors, energy-autonomy, wearables, and system integration. Strong emphasis is placed on scalable, low-cost manufacturing methods such as printing as well as the integration of printed components and circuits with more conventional component assembly methods.

The open position is related to on-going “INnovative polymer-based COmposite systeMs for high-efficient Energy Scavenging and Storage” (InComEss) project that receives funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme (Grant No. 862597). The InComEss project develops green material and manufacturing solutions for energy harvesting and storage by combining polymer based-composite materials into a novel single/multi-source concept to harvest electrical energy from mechanical energy and/or waste heat ambient sources. The project will demonstrate its applicability in key sectors and applications, structural health and vehicle monitoring in automotive, aerospace and building, presenting the highest market potential.

Job description

The open position will focus on research and development of low-cost environmentally sustainable supercapacitors with high energy and power densities. The main aim is to develop supercapacitors consisting of successive layers fabricated by printing methods. The objective is to determine the influence of the different materials combinations and structures together with printing conditions on the electrical and mechanical properties of supercapacitors. The work will be carried out in close collaboration between the partners.

Requirements

The Doctoral Researcher must hold a Master’s degree and the Postdoctoral Research Fellow candidates must hold a Doctoral degree in a suitable field (e.g. electronics, materials, chemistry). Expertise and previous practical experience on electrochemistry, supercapacitors, batteries, or printed electronics are required. Previous expertise on laboratory work, accelerated tests, and electromechanical tests are an advantage. All applicants should have an excellent command of written and oral English as well as good communication skills.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow should have doctor degree and proven publication record in the field.  We expect a competence to pursue independent scientific work and adequate teaching skills. We appreciate experience of studying and working abroad and contacts to international research community. The position may also involve some teaching duties in the future.
