Lead Developer, Guidewire

Are you a bright Lead Dev, who has the technical and insurance business acumen in Java + insurance business and products with the personality to develop, design, architect, and inspire? Have you led or supported overseas dev teams, or distributed agile teams before? If you have insurance-know-how plus desire and ability to drive a huge renewal and transformation project tech-wise, this is the one for you!

What is the role like?

At OP Insurance we’ve been doing something big for quite a while already, as we’ve been doing the largest platform transformation program in the history of Pohjola Insurance. In this renewal, we are transforming our insurance business into a new Guidewire Insurance Suite platform. Thanks to this transformation, in the future we are going to be able to handle insurances, billing & collections and claims all in one platform! This revolutionizes our insurance business by adding automation in our back-end processes and improving the customer experience and internal user experience – so it’s a win-win for everyone!

We are looking for Lead Developers to work both in Claim Center and Billing Center Teams, located in Helsinki. Transformation of this level is quite complex and there are a lot of stakeholders. You will be working closely with other Lead Developers, Tech Leads, Solution Analysts and naturally the Developers you are mentoring and coaching. You are designing our solutions and taking care that they follow the architectural guidelines, driving the development (if you’re into it, you can also do the dirty stuff and hands-on coding yourself!) and implementing integrations and configurations. Besides our internal employees, we also have many vendors, who’s work you’d be guiding on the technical aspects.

What we are looking for?

Your typical workday includes leading the technical vision and technical work. To thrive in this kind of work, we hope you have:
•     Guidewire transformation program and platform level understanding: architectures, best-practise views of implementations, hands-on experience with Billing Center or Claim Center domains.
•    knowledge of the following technologies: Java, JSON, XML, REST, React.
•    experience mentoring and leading an agile team.
•    experience working in insurance business and financial services.
•    fluent communication skills in English, Finnish is an asset.

What we offer to you

Our corporate culture and every-day operations are based on our core values: People First, Responsibility and Succeeding Together. These core values have enabled our cooperative success through decades, and they will also form the cornerstone of our future corporate culture.

Our values are present in this transformation as well. People First: we are building the systems that are easy, secure and simple for our customers and employees to use. The reason for renewing our systems is to ensure sustainable and responsible development and business. People First doesn’t only apply to our employees using the platform, but also to our people designing, coding, configurating, implementing and testing the platform. We appreciate that you have a life outside of OP as well, and we encourage you to that. It’s important that you have a good work-life balance! A transformation this huge cannot be done alone. We have a whole tribe working with this renewal. This also means that there is always help available. We have several professionals, who are always ready and willing to share their knowledge and expertise in our active Chapters as well.

It wouldn’t be fair if we had nothing to offer you. We have a wide range of staff benefits including a personnel fund and special terms for employee banking, insurance, and loan services. We offer comprehensive occupational health care, extensive medical treatment expenses insurance and a full-time group accident insurance policy. We invest in wellbeing at work by encouraging a good work-life balance, providing flexibility in your daily life, and offering lunch, sport and cultural benefits and opportunities for affordable holidays in OP timeshares.

If you are a solid fit, we will expeditiously set up a brief 'phone screen' with you where we will get to know you, qualify your background and match you to the particular position (or a different one if we find your background is more suitable for something else). After that, we will manage your candidate experience to be sure you are thoroughly prepared for every interview step you will participate in, and to be sure you are enjoying the process (and not too stressed out: a job search can be hard!)
