Technology and Product Management is strengthening its strategic focus with a new organisation as of 1 May 2021. There will be five main functions in the new Technology & Product Management organisation: Sustainable Fuels & Environment, Power Systems & Controls, Solution Design & Product Management, Plant Expertise and Development Projects. The new organisation will enable a better fit to our strategic needs and address the changing market- and customer requirements. 

We are looking for a Director, Sustainable Fuels and Environment to our newly established Technology and Product Management organisation. As a Director you will lead our teams of fuel- and environmental experts as well as the Fuel Services laboratory. The ultimate goal of this position is to ensure we secure readiness for green- and sustainable fuels and set environmental strategies in order to proactively develop customer value based on decarbonising technologies and enable the final push to 100% renewable energy.

You will be a member of the Management Team for Energy Technology and Product Management, reporting to Vice President, Technology & Product Management. This is a newly established role. The preferred location is in Europe.

Responsibilities:

  • Define Energy Business level Fuel and Emissions strategy together with the engine and catalyst systems’ R&D colleagues
  • Drive, lead and manage the organisation and employees towards goals
  • Develop competences within future fuels and emission (incl. noise and other PP emissions) expertise
  • Initiate and drive the development of solutions and technical expertise in the areas of environment and fuels
  • Define Energy Business strategy for Power-to-X and X-to-Power together with the engine and catalyst systems’ R&D colleagues
  • Proactively connect with customers and listen for feedback
  • Ensure emission regulations lobbying towards sustainable energy production
  • Support Technical Sales Support in complex technical matters
  • Drive Wärtsilä Purpose and demonstrate Wärtsilä values

Requirements:

  • World-class knowledge in sustainable fuels with proven track record in global business environment
  • +10 years of experience in technology development of Fuel & Environmental solutions
  • Energy industry understanding is preferred
  • Relevant MSc or higher
  • Visionary and strategic thinking: able to see big picture and think out of the box
  • Recognised R&D leader who has good ability to build high performing team
  • Solid understanding of emission legislation and development.
  • Entrepreneurial attitude with customer in focus
  • Is able create clarity on direction, inspires people to take action towards the future goals
  • Business minded and goal-oriented people, drives for results with excellent planning and execution skills
  • Good analytical skills, as well as creative thinking
  • Experienced in leading matrix teams and you communicate easily with various stakeholders in an international environment
  • Strong influencing, networking and presentation skills are a must in this position
