Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is currently seeking to recruit

an Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure track), Musicology, starting January 1st 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter, in the Assistant Professor position for 3 years or in the Associate Professor position for a fixed term of 5 years.

The position is allocated to the Department of Music, Art and Culture Studies and to the discipline of Musicology.

The position focuses on music psychology as a strategic field of the Department and on Social sustainability for children and families (SOSUS, term 2021-2026) as a profiling area of the University. https://www.jyu.fi/edupsy/en/research/child-and-family-research/current

The discipline of Musicology concentrates on music psychology and cognitive musicology, which study musical phenomena using a multidisciplinary approach, implementing a variety of methods, and in a dialogue with research questions and teaching of music education and music therapy.  The position of the Assistant/Associate professor also focuses on research of the SOSUS profiling area, which addresses the impacts of music on the development of children and adolescents and the wellbeing of families.

 

The position of the Assistant/Associate professor focuses on active research work and on initiating and carrying out research projects. The duties include teaching and guidance for students completing Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees, and supervision of doctoral and master’s theses, and active participation in the activities of the university community and networks.

A successful candidate is expected to have strong merits on the Department’s research areas described above. In addition, high-quality and international outputs in research and publication, methodological competence, success in acquiring external funding and experience in leading or working in research projects, and a competence to act in a multidisciplinary research environment are regarded as a merit.

The position of an Assistant Professor is for a fixed term of 3 years, or the position of an Associate Professor is for a fixed term of five years. When an employee has been selected for a fixed-term professorship, an evaluation procedure is used regarding the employee’s merits for the next level in the tenure track. The evaluation procedure shall begin before the end of the fixed-term contract.

In the Assistant Professor position the annual salary range will be approximately EUR 37.750 – 53.150 (gross income, and in addition a holiday bonus is paid), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

In the Associate Professor position the annual salary range will be approximately 50.750 – 61.200 EUR (gross income, and in addition a holiday bonus is paid), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

A trial period of six months will be used when the position is first filled.

1. A CV of the applicant, composed according to good scientific practice and considering, when possible, the template for researcher´s curriculum vitae of the Finnish Advisory Board on Research Integrity (TENK);

2. A numbered list of all scientific and other publications with which the applicant wishes to demonstrate his or her eligibility and merits for the post, according to the instructions of the Academy of Finland;

3. A brief (2-3 pages) written account of the applicant’s scientific research, merits in scientific activities and supervision of research work, including an account of acquired complementary research funding and the responsibilities related to the research conducted through such funding and in international activities;

4. A brief (2-3 pages) explanation of the applicant’s pedagogical training and teaching merits i.e. teaching portfolio;

5. A brief (2-3 pages) written account of the applicant’s societal interaction and international cooperation;

6. A brief (2-3 pages) account of how the applicant intends to develop research, teaching and societal interaction in the field of Musicology;

7. A maximum of ten publications, numbered in accordance with the list of publications
