Developing the largest and fastest-growing music education app in the world is a real challenge, but very rewarding. We are expanding our team and looking for a Head of Music Licensing to work in collaboration with our legal team and other teams and support the growth of Yousician music education products that incorporate licensed, commercial music.

What you'll do

• Be an owner and driver of Yousician’s strategic licensing efforts.
• Manage Yousician’s licensing discussions and negotiations with music publishers, PROs, collection societies, record labels, and other licensing collectives.
• Work across numerous geographies to support the global growth of Yousician services.
• Oversee Yousician’s day-to-day relationships with music publishing entities, including account management functions, business reviews, and pitches.
• Review and draft music license agreements and other music-related contracts with the support of the legal team. 
• Collaborate deeply with the product and finance teams to ensure that Yousician’s licensing strategy enables product development, flexibility, and experimentation and that the business model is viable to enable growth.
• Work with product teams to identify priority music content, formulate a strategy for licensing it.  
• Work with finance to and operations teams to ensure Yousician’s compliance with all license agreement terms including reporting and accounting obligations.
• Work with marketing and artist relations teams in their content licensing needs and collaborating with artists in co-operation with the artist relations team to unlock additional content for Yousician services. 
• Oversee the development of Yousician’s rights management operations and create and manage processes to help scale global business operations.
• Advise the teams on music intellectual property rights matters.
• In this role you will be reporting to Youscian’s General Counsel. 

Who you are

• You have a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 6+ years of music business experience working in a licensing role at a digital music service, music publisher or licensing collective, record label, or similar.
• You have an expert global understanding of the music publishing sector, associated rights types, commercial licensing structures and business models, market dynamics, and operational paradigms together with a strong understanding of the issues facing globally operating technology companies using music as an essential part of their products. 
• Experience with performing rights organisations and foreign collection societies.
• You have an excellent understanding of copyright laws and the legal frameworks of music publishing rights.
• You are an organized and highly motivated self-starter, expert communicator, and strong negotiator who has the ability to execute and meet goals both cross-functionally within Yousician and with external music partners in a fast paced environment. You are a solution driven and 
• You can explain the complicated inner workings of music publishing to executive stakeholders in a concise, understandable fashion.
• You are passionate about music and understand technology and digital distribution.
• A JD degree is nice to have, but not required.
