Orion’s Research and Development is now looking for an experienced Director to lead its Specialty Products Development unit with a specific focus in Generic Product Development strategy.

Description of position

This Director role  is accountable for all activities of the Generic Product Development including formulation, process, analytical development, and project management. You will be the primary liaison between the Generic Product Development and key stakeholders from the business unit. In this role you will ensure the definition, development and implementation of product development activities associated with formulation and analytical development including regulatory strategy definition and IPR strategy. 

As the Director, you will provide business and technical support throughout the entire generic drug development process.  Your work includes working directly with scientists, peers, leadership, and customers to ensure a robust understanding of the business and technical challenges and associated risks with all generic product development programs in the portfolio.

This position offers an exciting and challenging cross-functional opportunity to coordinate the work of a variety of internal and external stakeholders. You will be leading and managing a team of experts and participating in decision making and strategic planning.

The position is preferably located in Finland, either Espoo or Turku. Should you be working from elsewhere than Finland, your presence is required for some extended periods (weeks) in Finland and India.

Description of unit

Generic Product Development Team is located in Specialty Products Development Unit as part of Orion’s Research and Development. The team collaborates intensively with several internal and external stakeholders including Pharmaceutical Development and various external CROs. Generic Product development Team is responsible for the development of new generics, from ideation and feasibility to project planning and execution. Responsibilities include regulatory, clinical, pharmaceutical and project management.

Requirements

Ideally you should have the following educational and professional work experiences:

  • Master’s degree from a suitable discipline for example pharmacy, engineering, or other scientific areas. PhD is seen advantageously
  • Concrete work experience from generic product development or product life-cycle management activities
  • Proven track record of generic drug product approvals and successful applications of EU/ FDA regulations
  • Deep scientific knowledge and understanding of driving product development from the lab all the way to commercialization and technology transfer, and from product development to operations and site to site
  • Demonstration of establishing external CDMO & CRO network and successful execution of outsourced product development
  • Proven skills in evaluating, building, and motivating international teams
  • Strategic thinking and capability to execute the strategic plans

Most importantly, we are looking for a person who is used to setting high goals for personal and group accomplishments using measurement methods to monitor progress in achieving the goals. You are experienced in working in a matrix organization and you have high result-oriented skills for teamwork (internal and external customer). Fluency in English is essential in this role as you will liaise with organisations globally.
