Turku Center for Disease Modeling  (TCDM) is a research and research service organization at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Turku. TCDM provides state-of-art research facilities and expertise in studies in experimental animals to support both academic and industrial associated preclinical research. TCDM belongs to the Institute of Biomedicine

TCDM is looking for a Research Technician or Project Researcher for a fixed term position from 1 November 2021 to 31 December 2024. The starting time is negotiable.

The job title will be determined according to the background of the selected person. The qualification requirements are stated in the University of Turku Rules of Procedure.

Key Responsibilities

The duties include mainly taking care of TCDM cell culture work in various research projects and helping in genotyping and other molecular biology analyses.

Essential Qualifications

• Suitable degree (e.g. a Master’s degree in bioscience or other relevant discipline) or educational competence to laboratory work or bioscience (biomedical laboratory science, laboratory engineering, medical laboratory technologist and biomedical laboratory scientist etc.)
• Strong technical knowhow in cell culture work
• Experience in cell culture solution and sample preparation
• Microsoft Office skills
• High level of self-initiative, good social skills and activeness
• Good organizational skills and capability to adapt to quickly changing situations/work tasks
• Fluent communication skills in English

Desirable Qualifications

• Previous experience on basic molecular biology techniques (PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western plot)
• Good communication skills in Finnish

Salary

The salary is determined in accordance with the salary system for universities.

1. The salary of Research Technician is at level 6 on the job demands chart of the other personnel, where the task specific salary component is 2139,29 € per month.
2. The salary of Project Researcher is at levels 2-4 on the job demands chart of teaching and research personnel, where the task specific salary component is 2078,27-2591,28 € per month.

In addition, a personal work performance component will be paid. The personal performance component is 6% - 50% of the task-specific base salary.

There will be a six-month (6) trial period in the contract.
