Intelligent Control Experts for Decarbonisation

We are now looking for two Intelligent Control Experts for Decarbonisation to join our Intelligent Control development team supporting our new plant control and automation development as well as decarbonisation services aiming to reduce emissions and improve efficiency on a plant and microgrid level. We do this by combining renewable, engine and storage assets by developing intelligent controls that optimize operations and reduce the overall energy cost for our customers.  

The positions are offered on a permanent basis and the successful candidates will be located in Vaasa, Finland, or within European Timezone, preferrably in proximity to a Wärtsilä office.

What will you be doing?
 
As Intelligent Control Experts for Decarbonisation your work will include these responsibilities: 

  • Develop control, analytics and user experience functionalities for decarbonisation solutions, power plants and power systems of our full technology stack 
  • One of the positions will include part time responsibility as scrum master
  • Co-create developments with team members, suppliers and partners  
  • Participate in bringing new technology to the market and pilot customers 
  • Internal and external customer use case understanding and translation to technical solutions 
  • Drive our Wärtsilä values and purpose 

 
The positions are offered with the following requirements: 

  • You hold a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Automation, Computer Science or similar with 2+ years of relevant experience 
  • You have good experience with 

-    PLC (IEC 61131-3) development experience of plant controls (Siemens/Schneider/B&R)
OR: 
-    Python, Java, Javascript including both front- and backend development 

  • Good analytical and troubleshooting skills 
  • Ability to turn concepts and high level functionality into workable solutions 
  • Some experience or understanding in in electrical concepts, power grids including power and energy management 
  • Thinking out-of-the-box and challenging conventional ways of working  
  • Strategic mindset and scenario work, seeing the big picture and plan for the future  
  • Analytical skills, as well as creative thinking and problem-solving skills  
  • Planning and execution skills 
  • Fluent written and spoken English 

 
You will shine in this role if you have knowledge of: 

  • Model based development Matlab/Simulink 
  • Machine learning and analytics
  • IT infrastructure management; servers, virtual machines, Linux etc
  • Cloud services; AWS, Google Cloud  
  • Containerized applications utilizing Docker or similar
  • Experience with automated testing on different levels 
  • Relational and non-relational databases (PostgreSQL, NoSQL, InfluxDB) 
  • REST websockets  
  • Cyber security; IEC-62443 
  • OPC-UA communication protocol experience
  • Thermal based power plant processes and their control.
