The Political Science Unit of the University of Turku is looking for a researcher, primarily at the postdoctoral level, ­for a fixed-term employment from February 1, 2022, through July 31, 2023. Depending on the overall funding situation of the employing project, there may be a possibility to extend the contract until December 2024.

The researcher will work in the multidisciplinary research consortium “Just Recovery from Covid-19” (JuRe), funded by the Strategic Research Council of the Academy of Finland from September 2021 until the end of 2024. The workpackage of the Political Science Unit focuses on the recovery strategies across the European continent from a comparative perspective.

A successful candidate has, or is about to gain, a doctoral degree in political science or in a related field. Previous experience in working with themes related to (comparative) European/ EU politics, ability to analyse survey data, and skills in societal research dissemination are regarded as specific recruitment criteria. The candidate also needs to possess excellent team-work and communication skills in English (both oral and written). Academic teaching comprises five percent of the researcher’s working time.

According to University of Turku Rules of Procedure a person selected for the post of senior research fellow is required to have a doctoral degree and the ability to do independent scientific work. For the post of a senior researcher on the second step of the teaching and research staff career structure, an individual with a higher university degree and especially strong practical expertise in the field in question can also be appointed.

The salary is determined by the collective agreement system of Finnish universities. The position belongs to the category of teaching and research personnel. The pre-estimated salary will be 3300-3500 euros/month on the second step of the teaching and research staff career structure for a person holding PhD degree. The exact salary will depend on the person’s competence and research experience and will be specified when the employment contract is prepared. The researcher’s personal performance will be taken into account when determining the salary during employment.

There will be a 6-month trial period in the contract.
