Postdoctoral Researcher (Breast Cancer Research)
The research group of Academy Research Fellow Emilia Peuhu (https://peuhulab.utu.fi/) at the Institute of Biomedicine, University of Turku, is looking for a highly motivated and competent Postdoctoral Researcher to join a project aimed at understanding how tissue stiffness and composition regulates breast cancer. The position is initially for the period of1.3.−31.8.2022 (possibility for extension), and part of a research project funded by the Academy of Finland, Sigrid Juselius Foundation, and the Hospital District of Southwestern Finland.
The early stages of breast cancer progression from premalignant in situ stage to invasive carcinoma remain poorly understood. This project explores the interplay between local tissue stiffness and gene expression through spatial transcriptomics clinical tissue material, and utilizes our newly established 3D bioprinting methodology for spatial engineering of tissue features.
Essential Qualifications
- A PhD degree in a relevant field (e.g. biomedicine, medicine, molecular biology or biochemistry)
- Competence in independent scientific thinking and project management
- Good communication, collaboration, and organization skills
- Fluent spoken and written English
Desirable Qualifications
- Competence in tissue culture methods and experience in processing human/animal tissue samples
- Experience with bioinformatics (R)
- Skills in molecular biology (RNA and proteinisolation, quantitative RT-PCR, western blot, cloning)
The qualification requirements of the position are written in the University of Turku rules of procedure.
Salary
The salary is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. For a postdoctoral researcher, the salary is on levels 4-6, which is 2591,28–3498,98 euro per month. In addition a personal work performance component will be paid. The personal performance component is a 6% - 50% of the task-specific salary component.
The successful applicant is expected to start as soon as possible, but the starting date is negotiable. There is a trial period of max 3 months.
