The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is currently seeking to recruit 

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (TENURE TRACK) IN ECONOMIC HISTORY 

The employment relationship will start on January 1, 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position of the assistant professor is for a fixed term of three to five years (according to the tenure track model). At the end of the fixed-term assignment, there will be an evaluation procedure to assess the employee's qualifications for promotion to the next level (associate professor). 

Qualifications we are looking for 

The responsibilities of the assistant professor include developing and leading the research of economic history. In addition, the assistant professor teaches economic history especially at master’s and doctor’s levels. We are looking for candidates that have shown internationally strong research potential in the fields of the department of history and ethnology and that supports the scientific profile of the University of Jyväskylä. We value especially merits in the research fields of economic history, including long-run economic growth and wellbeing, together with industry and business history. 

The teaching responsibilities of the assistant professor include lectures and other courses of economic history ranging from basic courses to postgraduate ones. The tasks include advising students and supervising theses at bachelor, master, and postgraduate levels. The assistant professor is expected to be able to teach and supervise in Finnish by the end of the tenure period. 

Additionally, the assistant professor is involved in societal interaction as an expert. The assistantprofessor participates in managerial research and administrative tasks, continuous development of education, acquisition of research funding, and demanding specialist tasks.

Salaries are based on the job demands and employees’ performance following the Finnish University Salary System. A holiday bonus is paid to all employees. There is a trial period of six months at the start of employment.

  1. Curriculum vitae, composed according to good scientific practice and considering the template for researcher´s curriculum vitae by The Finnish Advisory Board on Research Integrity (maximum 2 pages). 

  1. A numbered list of all scientific and other publications in which the applicant wishes to demonstrate their competence and merit for the position. 

  1. A maximum of five (5) main publications, numbered in accordance with the list of publications. 

  1. Research statement (2-4 pages describing research merits, including external funding, and future plans). 

  1. Teaching and societal impact statement (a short 2-4 page description of applicant’s pedagogical training and teaching merits, and societal impact including future development plans).
